Make Paradox Grand Strategy games run faster?

I have a good computer that can run up-to-date games like TW: Rome 2, CK2, EUIV. But it seems like Paradox games are running slower (as in days go by slower) as more updates arrive. What do you guys suggest I do? Buy a new part for my computer, which part? Any tips would help.

Good computer? ‘up-to-date games'? Only rome is slightly charging on the computer.
Paradox games are very taxing on the CPU and memory, make sure you have excesses of those components.

Graphics processor is also very important in paradox games as many calculations are done by the graphics processor.

I don't have any problems with paradox games and my computer is outdated. Maybe it is because I play at the slowest speed.

The problem is that Paradox game cannot harness the power of mid and high-end computer... because they are focusing too much on low-end ones...
it's absurd that in 2014 new games still cannot run on a 64bit mode... all paradox game run only on 32bit... they need to change this now.

Yeah I mentioned it in the HoI4 forums way back and they said that even HoI4 will be 32bit. And yes it is absurd, even my old 4,5 years laptop is 64bit. I am very doubtful that there are a lot of people who plays Paradox games on 32bit OS.

Do you have any proof for that? The recommended specs usually have quite old cards and people are playing the games with intel graphics. The last few games had multi core support and I think they're still far from being able to transfer any significant calculations apart from the actual graphics to the graphics card.

Isn't the only gain of having a 64bit executable is being able to address more RAM which they didn't really need until RoI or AoW? It would probably be really great for modders to have more headroom, but as with all games: most people don't use mods or total conversions and they as a company decided that it's better to have a larger target audience.

The last discussion I read about that topic even mentioned that the longer addresses could make the game even slower. :ninja:

I personally do not have any proof of it(as I don't have access to the engine), I just read the answers of PDS devs saying it.

Both devs and moderators will mention that the GPU is underrated when people discuss the needs of Paradox titles. While it isn't the most important thing, I can say that I noticed a major bump in performance after I swapped out my GPU a few months ago.

Yeah, but that's mostly really old cards that don't support the shaders and other graphics features they use.

a lot of the "older" players (ie. 40+ in age) tend not to upgrade their PC often, and Paradox tries to cater to them (since they were a large part of their original niche market after all).

Darn tootin' right, youngster!

I'm personally of the opinion that the older 2D map/graphics systems were not only cheaper to support in terms of user's hardware but superior in gameplay terms as well, but that's an argument I lost long ago, and I welcome our new 3D masters!

My last major PC upgrade was in 2008, since then I've added memory, (slightly) improved the graphics card, installed an SSD and moved to 64-bit OS, but otherwise it's the same PC. Hard enough to buy the games, let alone buying a new PC every other year!

However, this is about the limit I think, I need to do something as the latest version of EU4 has slowed to a near read-a-book-while-playing speed even after the improvements in the latest patch. Now, I wonder where I can steal a thousand pounds from...?
