Hi Paradox! I really love the work you have put into the names of provinces - especially when you colonize, and the american provinces change names into a more British sounding or similar.
Sadly, with Colonial Nations, the names of the provinces turn back into their native names, when they are handed over. This means, that all the flavour names for the New World (perhaps also elsewhere? is basically wasted.
I have a picture here to illustrate it, where you can see the province Halifax being colonized, but my CN's provinces being changed back to the original names,
Could you perhaps make it so colonial nations doesn't change the name of provinces given to them? And maybe also, so any new provinces they colonize themselves, gets the cultural names fitting their overlord?

Dynamic province names are tied to the nation's culture.* If the colonial nation shares your culture (or is a colonial culture in the same group such as American), they will accordingly keep the dynamic name of the province.

If they have a different national culture however, they will opt to use that culture's list of dynamic province names instead, and if their culture doesn't have one, the province will revert to its original name.

So if you exported a bunch of Normans to the new world, that would cause Canada to have Norman culture. This would mean that once Halifax is handed over to Canada, it would be renamed to Chedabouctou.

If you instead chose to export the Norwegians in Orkney however, Canada would be Norwegian, which does not have any dynamic province names. This would mean that Halifax would revert to Eskikewakik once given to them.

If you want your colonial nations to keep your dynamic names, try to keep their culture the same as yours.

*A few odd provinces have nation-specific dynamic names, but those are very rare, and none exist in the new world. Bregenz for example is named Bregenz when owned by any other Austrian cultured nation – Austria in particular however has the unique dynamic name of Vorarlberg for it instead.

Arh! That explains why some of my other colonial nations did retain their names afterwards. I was worried, that perhaps it was a bug based on whether I formed the nation before or after reforming into Great Britatin.
I am not entirely sure, that Newfoundland has a different culture than English, but it is definately plausible. Thanks for heads up :)
