I just had a game where I inherited a tribal vassal during a war. This resulted in me inheriting a levy that seemed to still be under AI control, seeming outside my control until I noticed the tiny attach button was checked. The attach button is pretty small, there's no feedback when trying to give an order to an attached unit, and generally there's no reason that you'd want an army attached just because the AI did. So why not have all attached armies become unattached when inherited.
