Exactly. Just because there's a bug that allows you to call a much larger country to war as your tributary doesn't mean that you actually have to call them.

Except that that much larger country is normally antagonistic to you and should constitute a major threat to handle; and instead suddenly becomes your unfailing ally. so yes, it ruins the whole regional dynamic

No it doesn't. If you are weak the AI will still declare war to break tributary status, IIRC. I'm also not entirely certain why you are so against wrenches being thrown into the works. In CK2, that makes the game so much more interesting for me.

I'm also not entirely certain why you are so against wrenches being thrown into the works

Because I enjoy CK2 for its historical background, and even more so HIP for its attempt at greater consistency and plausibility. So, of course I love surprises and dramatic turns of event... when they are generated by the game's engine with its own intrinsic logic. I find it most dissatisfying when they are completely absurd situations and caused by bugs.
