I vassalized the Knights Hospitaller and gave them land in the Mediterranean. A couple centuries later, I inherited a "temporary" rebellion duchy title when a "revolt against the tyranny of __________" leader died, so it defaulted to their liege... me.
I now hold a temporary title. This temporary title prevents me from doing almost anything diplomatically (such as granting counties, arranging marriages, etc.). I'm guessing this is not working as intended.
