Majesty Expansion Freezes

I recently bought majesty gold. The northern expansion freezes after a seemingly random time. Sometimes I can play for up to an hour before it freezes. Sometimes in freezes within 5 minutes.

When the game freezes, I can still move the cursor, but all action stops and I cannot select any command. I have to use the task manager to quit the game.

I am running Windows XP SP3. I saw in some forum posts that at least two other people report the same problem, but I never saw an answer posted for this random freezing problem. I would greatly appreciate any help!

All I can think of off hand is to try disabling the audio in the game and play another round, and see if the same thing happens.

It's cause its the Northern expansion. Har har har.

Turning off the sound does not stop the freeze, but thanks for the suggestion. I had read in another post a suggestion to delete the music files, but I looked in the majesty folder, and it is not obvious what are the music files. Does anyone know what the music files are named?

Hmmm...
At first I couldn't get the game to even start - followed advice in previous post about downloading different dll file. That worked. But now am getting constant freezes after 10 or 15 minutes of play. This is on the original game, not the expansion. Still trying to get the hang of the game play, but its kinda hard when it keeps freezing up. Can't imagine what the sound files have to do with it, but guess I'm willing to try whatever...

It could be a number of things (including the music). Since the game was coded, 3 new versions of Windows have been realeased. In addition some of the files (including the sound files) were reformated for the Gold version (to fit everything on a single CD ROM).

I've also tried disabling direct draw as was suggested in another post - that worked for the start up problems (put back the original dll file). Guess I will put the new dll file back, disable direct draw, and try to find the music files and delete them. :wacko:
Will report back in case anyone else is still having similar problems. Guess I shoulda just bought the new one.

You have to right click the exe and run it with windows95 compatibility mode.
