Well I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. I currently have 2 computers, the older, and in comparison worse computer can run CK2 and all the DLC's very well. No problems at all there using patch 1.11.

But my better, newer computer is far, far slower. It loads the game up nice and fine, but when I click play, it goes up to the little play menu normally, but it loads the start GUI and republic list GUI very slowly. On the offchance that it loads fully, selecting a start date works fine, but selecting a character fails to work most of the time. The times it does work, the GUI fades away very slowly, freezing constantly, recquiring the repeated click of the play button. If I do get it to work though, the game runs perfectly.

I'm really not sure what the problem is. I've tried disabling all DLC's and enabling them one by one, but it fails to work.

I should mention I'm using Steam.

First try running a Steam verify.

If tat doesn't help Please try installing:

First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

After that: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

Then right-click on ck2.exe and ck2game.exe and set them to run as the Admin user.
And then check if you can run the game after that.


If thyat doesn't help: Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload). Also open setup.log, search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.

Did your previous machine have this little memory? Because what this shows is you have just 3.2gb of memory of which 1.1gb is used by the video card, leaving 2.1gb only for both Windows7 and the game. The game itself uses over 2gb now.

We can see from the Page file stats that you are swapping stuff out to file quite extensively. Quite why you have a page file 65gb in size I'm not sure! But at some point nearly 5gb of memory contents have been swapped out to it, that will slow your machine to a crawl.

So, start by making sure you have exited every other app before running the game up - the App list in Task Manager ought to be empty. If you can add more memory, that's be great - you have Win7 64bit but with that little memory 32bit would have done; IOW to make use of your 64bittedness OS you need more memory.

Are you using any mods? How much free space do you have on C:? Is Steam/the game installed on C:?

That aside I really can't see anything wrong in there. Did the Steam verify find anything to fix?

Ohhhhhhh. Well, I have 2 disks, one with very little memory, C:, and one with 2 TB. I'll try moving the game to the other drive, and see if that makes it better.

EDIT: Well, that more or less worked. I mean sure, I have to alt + tab when clicking play, but I can deal with that. It's not exactly a total fix, but I'm more than happy with it. Thanks for your help.

You are confusing memory with disk space, I was talking about system memory, of which you have ... woah, I see I utterly misread your system! I thought you had 3.2gb of Ram (system memory) but its actually 32gb! So forget everything I said.

Why moving it to another disk helped I can't say, unless it perhaps is a much faster disk drive. Weird!
