Even typing them in as "John DOT Doe AT Server.com" would be better IMO, but then again it is more work for the moderators, too...

Also may I suggest the following: A thread is made which is closed and it will be titled "HOI2 beta-test announcer" or something, and then all these people could subscribe there, and when the Beta starts one of the mods could open it and post "It has begun". All ho subscribed get the info, just like here.

Then we would all get to know it without this thread. Less work for the mods and no SPAM possibility.

Of course it is, but if you give your Spam account address here, then waht is the point, if you read that mailbox only occasionally. And if you give your real account so you actually get to know the start date, then you get SPAM.

But this all could be done Hidden, beyond the vision of Viagra spammers, with a simple subscription to a thread. Or have I missed something crucial here?

Use Mailwasher or a similar program - it has kept all my accounts, including the spam account, pretty much free from spam.
