I was going to laud you Paradox for finally having balanced some of the 'features' that you put in EUIV - ie: Mandate of heaven institution spread etc - that while it now makes the game a tad too easy in some cases - it was overall an improvement (even if I still despise Institutions - but whatever).

However. Here you go again putting in nonsense that makes it unplayable.

Magically jumping Morale. Wow what a ridiculous mechanic.

What is 'Magically jumping Morale' you ask?

Its where I review a country's army, man power and quality before I war dec them. The information is there so I use it. Seeing as I have the highest morale on the board given the work I've put into my army to create high morale - it looks good on comparison.

Upon war declaration however there is a DRAMATIC difference in the morale values once a battle starts. Suddenly a 4.02 Morale jumps to a 7.1 - not just for a single nation involved in the war but all of my enemies. Miraculously just higher than my morale. In all cases where war is declared.

Now before the fanboys start - and yes I know there are a lot of Paradox fanboys on this site which Ive encountered before - whatever excuse you want to bring for that 'mechanic' - its terrible design. Its compensating for a failed/flawed AI with a 'quick fix' to try to make the game more challenging - while in reality it just creates a pointless exercise of a game.

While the potential seems to be there for EUIV - you guys seem to continue to sabatoge your own work with mechanics that just destroy the game. Normally I wouldnt care and I just wouldnt play - but given the investment Ive made into this game of several hundred dollars - I expect it to work in a reasonable fashion without introducing silly game breaking 'hax' to compensate for a failed AI.

I highly doubt there is a "hax" involved.
I assume this is just a result of AI bringing their Land Maintenance to a max, while during peace they keep it at a lowered level.
Hover on the figure in the ledger - you will see red "Land Maintenance" malus. Which will go away as soon as war will start.
If this is not the case - submit a bug report, provide a save file, wait for the QA response. No need to rant and call people names.

If you're late enough in the game where a nation can get 7 morale, then why would you expect anyone to have 4 morale? As said above me, the army quality ledger tells you the exact modifiers ANY nation has to morale. At least use that to justify your argument..

Next time hover over the morale of future target in army quality ledger page- and it will show for example: Land maintenance -3.14

Playing the Ottomands and you are fighting Catholics ?

Perhaps you have an crusade against you ?

Also there is one policy that give +5% morale and another that gives +10% morale. AI loves to use them if needed.

I quickly checked your previous postings, complaining about institutions and warfare. In all cases you were proven wrong about what you were ranting. Maybe you should do some research in a topic or mechanic before coming here to rant about it.

Post like this make me wonder.

Do lots of people leave their armies on full maintenance during peace? The fact the AI lowers maintenance is often rather exploitable but you'd think a human could deal with it.

This is such a beautiful rant over such a silly misunderstanding.

Shouldn't the ledger be showing/emphasizing max morale rather than current morale? It's not like current morale is going to mean much unless you're getting one of those DoW dives to wipe someone before month tick.

If you're doing that, you don't need the ledger to tell you the army is low morale.

I go full maintenance nearly all the time now especially with the latest patches that have increased income so much - and Drilling. It's less fiddly and increases game difficulty a bit. The only time I'd probably lower it now is if I'm just starting out as some very poor native.

It should be clearer, for sure. If you're not familiar with what things should be then its easy to get screwed over by the information. The first time I even noticed it did this was when France had a moral of 3 in 1700, and I just knew that couldn't be right.

Problem is there are timed modifiers, prestige/power projection/bankrupcy/advisors/religion hokey pokey changing and so on and then it may hypothetically happen to change at the same time and should the game ALSO tell theoretical max morale then? Or just maintenance? What if bankrupcy modifier will expire and suddenly there will be burst of morale? There is potential problem there as well - and another rant 'I thought that max morale shown in ledger was max morale, but then hokeypokey bad AI cheats and better don't you start fanboys defending this system...'

Base + all modifiers they currently have at max maintenance. If they have an adviser, it counts towards the max when hired for example.

Yes, someone can still hire adviser, switch reformed focus, take DotF, and enact 2 policies and dump a bucket o 40% morale on you, but it's still more clear than now and each of those are something you can anticipate.

Wow. For the sake of not being moderated I'm just going to say great job TC, way to go. I'm actually laughing out loud at you. A literal and actual lol.

Next time bother to actually check the ledger before coming on here and crapping on an entire fanbase with accusations of "Fanboyism."

lol
