Well I can't help because Goggling "UAC" I get:
- Universities Admissions Centre
- User Account Control
- Union Aerospace Corporation

When I had to buy a new computer the only choice in all the stores was to get Windows 10. I so hate that version that I scrubbed the bios and then changed bios to be able to even delete it, and installed Windows 8 just so I could avoid having my whole life forced to comply as to some idiot's idea of what true organization is. Yes, I may be "old School" regarding computers, but with XP Pro we never had any of the many weird problems.

However, as regards AoD, I have long understood that it is best if you put everything in a Folder outside of Program Files. I have a folder called AoD in my Documents. In that folder I have the installation for AoD. So I am running the program as Administrator (AFAIK).

Good luck!

User Account Control it is.
Usually unsafe paths include:
Code:
C:\Program Files\
C:\Program Files (x86)\
And all their subdirectories.

Even if you got the game via Steam and Steam is installed in one of these, it should be perfectly fine to just copy away the game folder from [...]\Steam\SteamApps\common\ to somewhere else.

So now my game crashes every time it attempts to save the game files (1.09 ver). Grrrrrrrrr...

Help me please!
I had got the same problems from patch 1.02 and I was running Windows 7.

As Zsar1 has recently says C:\Program files and C:\Program files (x86) and all their subdirectories are unsafe paths because they contains read-only files per default. So you must install your game at C:\Paradox Interactive\Arsenal of Democracy directory for example. Files at this directory are not read-only and you can save your games.

For further information you can see "Plains to Forest Bug" thread some days ago where we were talking about that. I hope that information can help if you have any problems with C++ or something like that. Bye.

Ah this discussion could be useful for me. On my computers, using Win 7 I have no problems, apart from the latest attempt by the enemy to force installation of Win 10! However on the laptop I have recently obtained, which is cursed with Win 10 I have been having problems with both AoD other games and frequently get 'run as administrator' messages. Despite being the only user which I would have thought made me administrator by default. So in Win 10 they have set the Program file areas to be read only. That explains why with the AoD directory under C:\Program files (x86) it stores the saved files elsewhere. Took me a while to discover this and find out where.

Thanks

C:\Program files (x86) directory is set to be read only: at Win7 too. That's why so many games have problems to be installed at that directory: you can't write on it. So you must install your games at C:\Games directory for example (C:\Games\Paradox Interactive\Arsenal of Democracy for example). Doing like this you can write saved games, editing files because at C:\Program files (x86) and at C:\Program files directories you cannot write anything because they are read-only directories.

Odd, I've never had any such problem with the files saving on the Win 7 machines? Both with AoD and the other game I play regularly, Rome Total War. Unless because I play them with my account which has administrator privileges, which it doesn't seem to give on Win 10?

Thanks

Playing AoD I can only save games at 1.02 patch. I should install the game out of C:\Program files to be able to save games with 1.10 patch. Sometimes you can save your games and sometimes you cannot: I don't know why. But If you want to edit or mod any file you cannot do it if that file stays at C:\Program files only-read directory. Also you may have problems with updates that modifies the database files. That's why I should have to install several games at C:\Games directory where you can edit the game files (usually database files). Bye.

I learned years ago never to put a game into "program files" etc. or it can cause a whole lot of grief.

I used to put games into a "games" folder on my main drive, C: normally. However, since I play a lot of home networked games multiplayer anymore, I put most games into users/public to aid in sharing game files that are changed with other computers on my network. WIN XP, Vista, 7, 8.2, or 10 makes no difference.

Windows 10 is shit

I think the problem is Microsoft is shit. Was running reasonably OK until yesterday then it sneaked in a load of updates which kicked me off the machine and spent about an hour loading. When I finally got on it caused futher delays and has been running slowly. Then this morning it delays me by starting another load of 'updates'. I think N Korea could become far more popular if it nuked Seattle!

All experts I know (people who fix other people's laptops including software and hardware issues for a living) always say, "Set it so it can't update to avoid future system problems."

Well, if the manufacturer creates updates that the experts don't like to install on their client's machines, it is much more than "SHIT".

Unfortunately, the 21st century is characterized by human technology changing beyond the speed appropriate for human understanding. They should kill the designers who only strive for "change for new product sales" while eliminating most of what was really excellent before.
