I'm playing CK2+, but I'm sure the same could happen in most other builds. I'm playing the Carolingians from the Alexied start time, which meant to continue my dynasty I had to lock up my two daughters and husband and execute, as they were of the wrong dynasty and I felt the need to go forth and multiply. Seems sound, but then I seized upon the chance to get my mother on the next door county of Vexille's throne, which meant my curiously unlanded older brother would be able to continue the dynasty anyway without having to incur tyrrany and kinslayering. Joy.
Still, soon the King of France decides to make my brother my liege lord as a duke- brilliant! The descendants of Charles the Hammer are on the up! And then he decides to go in with a faction war to install burgandy on the throne. They were rather massively outnumbered, and I decided for God knows what reason to defect over to the King so at least one of us could still have kids out of jail/not get executed. They were going to lose heavily. The only problem was another faction war ot lower authority fired and suddenly the king could rely on my single-county holding for a good 25% of his troops. Followed by the newly installed House of Wessex king of England joining in with the origional war my brother was in. So holy shit did I join the wrong side.
So, to make me feel a little better, has anyone else managed to do something similar?
