I'm playing CK2+, but I'm sure the same could happen in most other builds. I'm playing the Carolingians from the Alexied start time, which meant to continue my dynasty I had to lock up my two daughters and husband and execute, as they were of the wrong dynasty and I felt the need to go forth and multiply. Seems sound, but then I seized upon the chance to get my mother on the next door county of Vexille's throne, which meant my curiously unlanded older brother would be able to continue the dynasty anyway without having to incur tyrrany and kinslayering. Joy.

Still, soon the King of France decides to make my brother my liege lord as a duke- brilliant! The descendants of Charles the Hammer are on the up! And then he decides to go in with a faction war to install burgandy on the throne. They were rather massively outnumbered, and I decided for God knows what reason to defect over to the King so at least one of us could still have kids out of jail/not get executed. They were going to lose heavily. The only problem was another faction war ot lower authority fired and suddenly the king could rely on my single-county holding for a good 25% of his troops. Followed by the newly installed House of Wessex king of England joining in with the origional war my brother was in. So holy shit did I join the wrong side. :p

So, to make me feel a little better, has anyone else managed to do something similar?

In an earlier game, I played on of the Normandy counts - Eu or whatever. Did my part in the Norman conquest, but old miser William did not deign to give me an english county as a reward. Shortly after the conquest of England, the King of France decided to get back his duchy of Normandy. William the english Bastard wasn't capable of defending his heritage and Normandy was again under French rule. Not a month later, the french king revoked my county. Game over.

Tried this a few times... always the same result.

Now in my last try, I swore fealthy to France... and went on to conquer the whole of Normandy for my new overlord.

A month later, he revoked my countship.

As the duke of Transylvania (using ruler designer), Wallachia and the other duchy in the kingdom of Wallachia, I joined a rebellion to replace the king of hungary. What i had failed to take into account was that he was a military genius without equal, and had 2 great generals as well. He proceeded to completely trash our combined armies, who outnumbered his forces by some 1500 men (he had 2000, us 3500). My only son and heir was captured and imprisoned, so was I. And i had to watch as all my careful laid plans fell apart as first the heir, then my ruler died in that prison. In his stead his dimwit brother took over, who proceded to create a line of morons..
