Maybe not how you think so. Planes are not a unit you can build like tanks or infantry, they are just a product required by the upper class late in the game.

That’s cool if you are Britain. Don’t sell machine tools and you will be the only power in the world

They evolved, of course. From inferior industrial forms, like pig iron and coal. :D

The Machine Tools problem *does* need to be looked into.. at least for MP.

The smart MP British player will simply refuse to seel machine parts, thus drying up the early supply of them and putting a severe break on industrilization.

That is, unless, some techs or tech events up your stock in machine parts (which *should* happen, really..)

If that's the way it's alrleayd done.. no problem.

No, it does not. As a person who has played Victoria for a while in the beta, let me put your doubts to rest: There IS no Machine Parts problem.

In 1836....
  1. Britain starts with a machine parts factory
  2. Every major nation starts with a stock of machine parts, enough to build a few manufactories
  3. Every major nation starts with a decent number of manufactories of various types
  4. The techs "Mechanical Production" adds 5 machine parts and "Interchangable Parts" adds 10 machine parts.
  5. The invention "Precision Work" (1850+) requiring "Interchangable Parts", which allows a player to build a machine parts factory ALSO adds 10 machine parts (enough to build two machine parts factories)
  6. The invention "Machine Tools" (1860+) requiring "Pricision Work" adds 10 machine parts

So, even assuming that the UK does not sell a single machine part, every nation can get 15 machine parts from early techs and, with the typical 5 they start out with, that makes 20 parts, enough for two top-of-the-line manufactories (artillery, luxury clothes) or several lesser types - apart from the 6-10 manufactories they start out with.

What this means is that the UK will have an industrial advantage from 1836 to 1850, which is fair enough, but that it will very quickly erode after that as countries gain the invention "Precision Work" and begin putting up their own machine parts factories. And even if - god forbid - you should forget to use five of the ten machine parts from "Precision Work" for a machine parts manufactory, the backup invention "Machine Tools" can give you ten a decade later or so :)

Silly me. :eek:o

Like I said, if technological developments give you machine parts .. no problem. Btw, Peter, oh honorable and most feared conquerer, how many machine parts does it take to build a factory?

Depends on type. Some of the most basic (steel, cement, &etc) use one machine part, more advanced manufactories use more (to 5, 10, or even more). OTOH some industrial techs/inventions lower the cost of building manufactories, including their cost in machine parts.

Can you attach an air squadron to an infantry division?

No. The aeroplanes in Victoria are a luxury commodity that the upper class demands in the late game phase. The possible brigades that can be attached to infantry divisions are artillery, engineer, headquarters and guards. For ships you can add other "brigades" (think they're called squadrons or flotilla or equivalent) of torpedo boats, mine sweepers or destroyers.

Aren't there tank brigades? There are tanks in the game. Plus I know that cavalry and dragoons have different brigade attachments than infantry, although I'd guess tanks would be only attachable to infantry.

Yes, there are tank brigades (they are for some reason called Barrel brigades...). The barrel brigade gives you +30 to shock_attack. :D

tanks are only attachable to infantry and once they are they give the division a whopping 30 in shock points!

I think it should be compensated by lowering the division's speed...breakdowns and maintenance stops, etc.

In the moddable files used by Victoria, they are called barrels :)

...However, it was decided that most people would recognize them better, were they named tanks, so the internal and external representation differs.
