So I played for the first time as a Machine Empire, the Earth Custodians.

I have serious problems getting enough POPs. I prioritized techs that speed up robot production and later on dumped some bots on every planet I colonized to rush an assembly plant. Even so, population growth felt to be slower than with regular empires, I wonder if this is due to lacking immigration.

Then I got into my first war, and conquering planets seems a nightmare. I hadn't thought about the POPs I conquer, but of course they are all bio-trophies upon conquest, great for them, but I seriously need less trophies and more workers.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just how things are?

RougeServitors are kind of the roleplay heavy option. So yes you can suddendly end up with way to many Biotrophies but for the roleplay it doesn't really make sense to allow to send some away or purge them or anything like that. For the pop growth never had that much of an issue with it important thing is to play very wide and to use resettle when appropriate. Also remodeeling on some planets to have a population that is build faster can help.

You need pops on planets to upgrade your main building that creates more replicator jobs. The way I did it was simply settling every single planet no matter the size near me and using the resettling tool to get replicator buildings on the planets as fast as possible and then resettling pops to keep every planet at a level where they have the exact amount that you need to get as much replication as possible.

Rogue servitors can use biotrophies as pops too so resettling them around is not a bad idea, also useful for rogue servitors - Actively removing the Coordinator jobs to have more of your pops creating resources, as unity and society research is pretty useless for rogue servitors when compared to the amount of free unity you get from biotrophies anyways.

Rogue Servitors are great for roleplay, invaded a pre-FTL society for the first time. With 16 Mega-Warforms. I really wonder how that looked...

But I am just concerned about all those biologials outside a sanctuary, sounds like potential trouble to me and these ring worlds take a while.

Resettling is key when playing Rogue Servitors.

The resettling itself is not my problem, it is that I produce far too few robot POPs and that war brings in far too many bio POPs, I do not know how to properly handle this.

Don't bring in so many bio pops from war? In my current playthrough I play a rogue servitor that tries to acquire one of every species. I am towards the end of the midgame but I played tall, so I only have about 10 planets 1 habitat and 2 ringworld sections so far but I got all traditions and I can have every single unity ambition active at the same time and I only have about 10% of my pops as biotrophys. I recommend using tributaries to get raw resources rather than conquering planets yourself.
