The threat of Spanish Armada and insane Felipe's demmands lasted for 5 years at most, but after England succeeded building large enough navy...
Only if Felipe II The Mad succeeds in forcing Portuguese part of his Kingdom to fully cooperate and take the majority of the losses both short and long term can Spain be considered a moderate hurdle on the English walk towards world domination.

England made a serious mistake in the beginning of the colonial war against Spain: blockaded her naveis. Spain tried to break through only about twice from both ports in question.

As for ENG/FRA-SPA colonial wars, Spain started the one against France as "a minor war", or atleast that's what Spanish ambassadors declared throughout the Europe (OOC: History Log).
Well, now Spain is demmanding French American COT, if not something more - definitelly not a minor goal!
England will not tolerate Spaniard on the border of English North America. Although two wars are completely sepparated, before agreeing to sign the peace, England wishes Spanish formal declaration that she will, if anything, take only one province from French North America, the one not bordering English colonies.
