don't worry we french will embargo england again, as should the proud ottomans

The relations between Sublime Porte and United Kingdom are excellent ever since we signed that important agreement regarding India. It included a graduate opening of Ottoman COTs for English merchants, the process now over.
French can mind their own business. Not that they have little to do.

I hear from Archduke that you guys (at least some of you) are considering using my 1492 scenario in Mach 4. If this is true and you have any requests to be made; now is the time. I am about to release v2.0. Unless something odd happens, I will not release v3.0 for a while because I will be doing a lot of admiral editing and I have some more radical ideas I am playing around with.

Thus, if you want anything special speak now or forever (or like a week maybe) hold your peace :D Just a little prodding for insight from a nice gang of good players.

And Barnius, I will be bringing back your precious English privateers as Admirals since they got chopped out of history with my explorer edits. That is on top of making some more admirals for nations that lack them (Portugal, Genoa, Venice). After about 1600, admirals tend to disappear from every country that isnt England/Spain/France/OE.

Does anyone know exactly how naval combat values (fire, shock, move) work exactly? I am thinking that nations that liked to board their enemy's ships (Spain/Portugal/France/Venice/OE) should have higher shock values? Is that right? And then nations like England/Denmark/Dutch should have higher fire values? Is that right? I just lack knowledge of naval combat modifiers and their specific uses.

And I apologize for off-topic discussion, but it does pertain to Mach4, so dont kill me :D

Well, let's hope Mach III will go on, so you have plenty of time...

Thanks fir the privateers-admirals :)

Didn't have very fun today. Loosing wars I have done before but I don't think I will play a EU2 game with standard leaders again. It is simly bad game design giving leaders so much importance and very frustranting if you happend to be on the wrong side (which in my opinion is both sides as the current design only wrecks the game). Not sure what will happend in the next 100 years (regarding leaders and such) but if it continues like this it sure as hell won't be very amusing.

Nice session, except for that end-session war, which was gamey... :( All diplomacy made before war was a demand by Sweden at Russia and then Denmark dows Poland... All because Denmark had some random CB or lower stab costs, as Sweden didn't happen to have CB on either of us and them both had RM on me... But well, this wasn't the first time such things happen, right?

Anyway, it was nice to win some wars earlier, though they were against puny moslems.

Well that was an interesting session. Fought a very fun war with Juv, who managed to destroy a large part of my fleet due to it being split up. However lessons were learnt. Portugues supply limit must be raised, at all cost!

The -10 to inflation was very nice

I don't consider that war gamey at all, we was planning for a war against Poland/Russia, Danish king suggested to attack Poland. The Danish king had recieved a CB, witch gave the Danes a reason for the war. Then poland choosed not to call Russia into the war, witch is kind of gamey also because he knew that he couldn't win so he choosed not to invite Russia. Anyway, Russia should had protected Poland of course, but they didn't.
It's on the line maybe, but that war is fully acceptable.

Sweden and Denmark were very gamey in their last war.

The only decent thing I could do was not to bring Russia into it. Something tells me though that this kind of action will hit back on the aggressors very soon...

Well, maybe Denmark should have stated some kind of demands on Poland before war then? Or at least Sweden...

And I asked Poland not to invite me, because I wouldn't have honoured the call. Our alliance is not an alliance of defensive purposes. And in the end it turned up good, because now you didn't catch me unawares and Poland managed to beat you back enough that he lost only one province, instead of Damo taking two from me in addition to Belarus...

Besides, I had told Damo when I left alliance with him that I wouldn't interfere with war between him and Poland. So, simple gameyness for three stab points.

EDIT: Of course such non-aggression has been clearly voided by Sweden from now on.

Venice defends itself

While trying to maximize income in her small colonial empire around Venezuela (New Venice from now on) trade income rose steadily due to the maps acquired around 1700. I don’t want to think about what would have been the situation if Venice had had access to just a few of them during the preceding 200 years. However being first in trade tech (along with Sweden) and infrastructure, 2nd in land and among the 4 best in naval tech with no maps before 1700 Venice must be content. Her infra and trade efficiency levels are however very low even though her research is the highest. Bad monarchs and wrong religion I suppose? I really would like to know why the most advanced land is lagging behind so much in all areas? Although no events are available sliders are starting to look somewhat like a modern state’s should. The lack of any leaders (or worse than the default ones) of course makes Venice a permanent 2nd rank nation in itself. (I feel for you Aldo)

Anyway at this point 4 nations cancelled trade agreement with Venice and Portugal demanded my colonies and DOW:ed. Since the terrain in the jungle is rather horrific for offensive warfare I had little trouble defending the colonies having land access away from the coast where reserves can be kept. I sent my little galley navy to Tangiers and invested it and continued on to Portugal with my smaller sailing fleet. Once there my siege leader died and Portugal beat me and helped me save a lot of maintenance cost since the limit had dropped a lot from the lost trade due to the cancelled embargoes. Portuguese troops used access from the OE to march to Tangiers and when a reinforcing army was broken when trying to relieve the siege Venice agreed to WP in exchange for Trade rights in Portuguese COT’s. Venice voluntarily agreed to respect Portuguese Monopolies. Actually I think relations are better between Portugal and Venice after the war than before. It was an extremely cheap war since I lost only a few thousand soldiers in New Venice and a few galleys off Tangiers. The forces in Portugal would have to have been disbanded anyway after lowering of the maintenance level from lost trade. In the end Venice gained a deflation event lowering it to exactly zero and although only Denmark (?) has received fewer of all nations in the campaign (?) its great to be able to mint again if needed to. Venice was very interested in explaining to the OE how she felt about the help to Portugal in the last war through a punitive expedition without any war demands, but seeing how Austria was already punishing the Turks severely the Doge refrained from it. Also the Turks are allowing us trade and as long as that is the case little is to be gained from conflict. A large fort was spawned in the Americas but the Venetian government has decided it to be razed again since the cost would not be worthwhile for the effect.

One suggestion:
I would suggest that any Trade Embargoes that has been in effect for centuries imposed by a stand-in playing a non-player nation for a mere half hour be removed. Ie remove Persia’s embargoes that hasn’t been invoked by the AI for excessive trading.
