Regarding Mach IV, I am not sure if I wish to join the game without rules. And I am not sure about Ryokens' scenario. Forbisher deleted and Drake's main job exploration??!!

You see, there is our problem, in vanilla AoE, when Drake comes everything is explored. The Pacific Ocean should be a problem of the 18th.;)

England shouldn´t totally retreat from continental affairs in the 16th.

But that's what I am saying too: Drake should be used as the admiral of the Home Fleet, not as an explorer.

Persian off-limits till 1720 IIRC, right?

Why only the GM? Were there really surprise wars in those days? IMO before the DOW the goals of the war should be announced for all to hear.

yes but the persian thing aint worth mentioning in the quick rules, I doubt anyone would take a persian prov, unless that it was aldo who needs subbing.

Once GM is informed and acceptes it others can know it too, else it should only be between the would be agressors. This will ensure suprise wars still. But before every war and I mean every war, I expect to see some RP, e.g. no greed dows just cause spain is occupied fighting france, and england decides now is the time to snatch the mexico cot.

I was considering, fred's comment earlier. Maybe denmark could be annexed by bb. Then Fred would be perm BB->prussia instead, this would create a much stronger nation, and then we are only missing one new player. just a thought...

That is an interesting idea, however i don't think Sweden would appreciate it!

That's exactly what I am talking about. In this example England should be mentioning this COT for a while, it should be known to Spain that England is more enemy than neutral, and to all others at least that England and Spain are not friendly countries.
And when Spain becommes occupied, England should give her ultimatum or something, but give her time to decide what to do, before actual DOW. There were no surprise wars, preparations were long and visible.

And while we are talking about that, besides English main historical enemies France and Holland (apart from the breef period - an unfortunate and unsuccesful experiment) under William III of Nassau, Sweden owning Malacca would be not a friendly nation to start with.
On the other hand, it is probably clear to all now that English and Portuguese secret diplomacy was for a few decades deceiving Holland and France and made them believe we were enemies on the brink of war. Some other interested parties were, naturally, informed about the true status of our mutual relations.
With Denmark England wishes only good relations and cooperation.

For compensation Sweden can have Malacca for a month before cedeing it to England ;) .

Seriously, I would much more prefer a player in Denmark. Than AI Denmark. Denmark annexed by Brandenburg is really a major decission.
Besides, Brandenburg is still only a leaderless Brandenburg. First make Prussia out of those worthless swamps and have it ruled by a scarry King (not some Prinz), than Kingdom of Denmark could perhaps consider beeing annexed. As it is now, it would be more appropriate Denmark to annex Brandenburg.

But all knew I was trying to plot everyone against eachother, so I had breathing room. ;) But why didn't the english help porto when holland took mallaca? english greed? Yes jeg i think so :p :D

Back than Portugal was still regarded more as a target :) . But we thought, better to do it historically: Holland from poor Portugal and good England making things right and taking it from evil Holland...

THE METHUEN AGREEMENT

In 1703 the Methuen Treaty was signed in Lisbon. This was a commercial treaty between Portugal and England which established that the Portuguese wines would be preferred in England, by paying only two thirds of the rates settled with the French. It played a major part in the development of the port wine industry. Preference was granted under this treaty to wines from Portugal and this provided great stimulus to the wine producers in the hinterland of Oporto. A number of new refineries and manufacotires were opened.

In the exchange, centre of trade in Zanzibar, along with the island itself, was ceded from Portugal to England, recognizing thus the fact that it's trade was mainly generated in the English east African colonies.

European Economy in 1703

M3-1703-income-table.jpg

M3-1703-income-graph.jpg

Not exactly the best year for economy comparisons, because Holland and France for example are seriously hurt by the current war. Perhaps Russia and Ottoman Empire as well?
