It was for their own good! Their descendants will bless him for his actions! In fact, they already are, seing as there are rather more descendants alive in 1559 than surviving reckless traitors who fought against the Tsar in the three decades previous.Originally posted by FAL
Pardon me, but I see reason enough for Ivan to call himself the "Slaughter of Astrakhan, the opressor of Crimea, the slayer of Sibir, the tormentor of Azow and the humilator of Persia"
or simplified: "the Terrible"![]()
A little known fact is that in a recent poll conducted by the Chosen Council of the leading men of southern and eastern Russia, 81% supported the Tsar and praised him for his efforts, while 19% supported him and considered his efforts unmatched. The last 5% considered his efforts divinely inspired!
As such, with support from 104% of the southern Russian population, perhaps Ivan "the Benevolent" would be a more accurate description
EDIT: Please note that the Chosen Council in a fit of humility has elected to claim only 104% support despite having, in fact, 105%. They just are that nice, always ready to grant the opposition the benefit of doubt
