As they say, "If you can't beat Barnius senseless, or retake what he rightfully owes you, you can always take it out on Brazil"

It *should* be a saying, at any rate. I think it is a good one.

No, in fact you can't :) It was you who siad it will be war only in Europe and you can't just change your mind as it suits you.

Besides, I said we could distinguish those two wars on certain conditions. Making such drastic turns in the rules of a war doesn't help.

If Spain is affraid to leave the port with her navy, she can occupy Portuguese Iberian provinces and demand those.

Good night.

I fully suport this. Perhaps Elijah could continue as England at least untill this war is over?

Oh. You're quite right. One can't just change ones mind when one has made a deal...

No wait, one can!

And with this said I again use the opportunity to say shame on huge eastern powers that are playing peaceful economists for centuries now.
Centuries? We've only played 168 years until now.

From Herat in the South to Österbotten in the North and from the Baltic states in the West to cold Amour in the East, the population of Russias' 96 provinces (and 2 colonies) respectfully disagree with your characterization of Russia as essentially peaceful.

In fact, by any objective yardstick, Russia is the nation in the world that has declared most wars and spent most time at war. Also in the field of the conversion of muslims (24 provinces) is Russia FAR ahead of the competition. Many of them in taxvalue 1-3 sheep provinces. [And then there are the eight or ten misguided Protestant and Catholic provinces that have now peacefully become Orthodox]. It is possible that Russia is also ahead in the annexation of non-pagans race, though Austria might pose a worthy challenger.

No, forgive me for not agreeing with your characterisation, Barnius. If I had run a peaceful economic game right now I would not be about 2 infra/trade levels behind just about all other powers, and I would not have 34% inflation. Instead, I would have gone the innovative route and only colonised the most important Siberian provinces, turning Russia into Poland#2 with the advantage of slightly higher manpower. Oh, and the Swedes would still be living in Finland. :)

I normally have to work at those times, it was simply a holiday here so I had the day off; accordingly I doubt you'll see me again in this game. Personally I supported Holland for 3 reasons: #1 We were allied  #2 IF I weren't a sub, but a regular player, I'd have to have done something to counter French continental hegemony and #3 towards the end of the session William of the Netherlands was offered and accepted the crown of England. Pretty much unthinkable from a RP standpoint to do anything at that point but refuse any offers of a seperate peace. Personally I would have considered cedeing Brabant as reasonable but not Flandern as well.

Sure, that one can, but change the rules one can't. We agreed it is to be a war in Europe for European gains.:)
This is correct. Treaties can of course be broken, but when you make an agreement to fight a European war it has to take on the role of a game rule (as long as both sides agreed to limited war scope) otherwise the whole concept would not work and as soon as someone saw they couldn't accomplish their goals they'd take it elsewhere.

So if Barnius and Slargos want to continue their war and call it a seperate European war between just themselves then that is fine. But if France is not to get involved then I'd expect England not to either.

Also it's probably best to clear one thing up now, there won't be any capital movements. This was discussed sufficiently in Mach1 imo.

Income data for 1687:

Notice that:
  • Ottoman Empire is in even clearer lead than 17 years ago
  • Russia made the largest progress. So, my assessment stays: east is way to peaceful comparing to the west. How opportunistic and peaceful you have to be to build 7  new manufactories in 17 years, while the rest of the world is at war?
  • Manufactory count: Russia 18, Ottmans 14, England 12, Poland 11, France 9, … YES, I am jealous! While Portugal is fighting for survival other countries are building 21st century manufactories :(

A concept of Colonial War and Full wars will be used in this game. A player can attack another and declare at the very start that it is a colonial war. Until it's conclusion all land warfare is then restricted to the colonies and action on land in Europe is not allowed. A nation without colonies can obviously only declare a full war. A colonial war can last up to 3 years, if after that time one side can stab hit the other then the stab-hitting peace has to be accepted so long as it conforms to the 3 province/6 colonies rule. If neither side can stab hit then either WP is signed or European armies can come into play.

See, there is little here implying that I cannot under any circumstances take this to the colonies.

Especially given that Barnius answer to my suggestion that this war be kept in europe was "We will see". Not really an agreement rather than a "Oh, if I don't change my mind, maybe.."

See you in Brazil, Barns.

So no news on who will play England, Sweden or Brandenburg next session? I find it hard and boring to be able to do no diplomacy between sessions just because certain nations have no players.

If none is willing to take responibility for their respective nations I say that we should try to find new perms or drop them as player nations. It would be sad for all three nations but I just don't think it is fun to have new subs every session in Sweden and most of the time none at all in Brandenburg.

Will ForzaA play Holland Tuesday?

Let's hope Attila or Kalpati will surface soon.
I'm seriously considering dropping Brandenburg as a player nation - it's been AI for two sessions now an nobody seems interested in playing it.
PJL is Sweden unless he says otherwise. He just couldn't make it last Tuesday.
