Duke! Change your avatar back to the old one!

I keep missing your posts because that new blue one just melts into the background and my brain filters them out as being made by "noob without avatar"

sorry i'll qualify that, I object this has been plucked from thin air

Inderdeed it has been. But given the unique situation of this game it rapidly became a very good idea, that would benefit the longterm future of the game quite a bit :D

I do not see how, any number of arguements could be put forward to benefit the game long term this being one:D why does this deserve special consideration

With Austria's situation Poland, Russia Sweden, Denmark have all got a chance at alternate history. More thought should have been given on how to support Austria at the time.

thirdly let us ask ourselfs WHY we feel the need to give Austria Italian culture

The Habsburg situation is rather unique. The lay of the events that transpired took away any justification for Austria to have Magyar and Slovak, they didn't even get the CBS.

Historically however , Italian culture is very justified for Austria, it is just ussually left out for game balance reasons, in that Austria ussually grabs most of Germany and Hungary anyways. In this case, Peter has shown exceptional adherence to the spirit of the rules and has done no such thing.

Eventually, after he loses the Netherlands, he will become very ahistorically weak, which would not make for a very interesting longterm game. So, a single special allowance was made for this single special circumstance that he should get Italian culture upon choosing to keep his italian provinces and let the rest go to Spain.

Ottoman Empire, France and Austria agree to this. I don't see why Portugal cares, since we've given the most thought to it. Can you give any real argument Smirfy beyond a single line?

Yes plenty of reasons

1/ Bad luck Austria
2/ Austria does not have Italian culture in the game
3/ If something goes wrong for a another country do we do likewise
4/ Who is to decides what makes for an interesting game?
5/ This is being "deterministic" :D
6/ This has nothing to with it's Peter  :D
7/ All nations start within parameters you can't go about changing them
8/ Balance reasons :D why is this one so special (see 6)
9/ Hapsburgs could have gone Tits up at any stage just it happened sooner in ours

Well personally I'm more open to changing things like this in this game because its been billed from the start as trying to be a bit more realistic, and Archduke always said there would be edits. Having said that though I don't have strong views on the Austria culture change either way so will support the consensus, whatever it turns out to be.

Also Smirfy, remember we need to get Bermuda edit swapped seeing as Archduke didn't like the Mil Access method of doing it in game.

I would argue with the proportion;) :D

Lets equate with nerfing an AI nations map knowledge to giving a culture not just any old culture but italian:D

Yes.

Giving up two cultures that a nation has, but do not control any provinces of, in exchange for one culture, that they do control several provinces of could, I believe, be made a rule with little damage to gameplay. :D:D:D

Whatever. Duke it out between you, and the friendly Habsburg will play with whatever results.... After all, these things happen.

Though I must admit that given the ahistorical choice of Hungary, there is no good reason for Austria to retain Magyar and Slovak cultures. (They should have been granted with the event in any case, rather than having belonged to Austria from the start).

I think italian culture is more justified and useful for game balance than maygar and slovak really. And honestly I think we should give it a try.
