It is all about rolling with the punches. Prussia got hit very badly by Sweden and ceded 3 provinces for peace (Prussia itself and all of Pommerania) which also knocked Prussia out of the Imperial vs Bourbon war hastening its end.Originally posted by FAL
I don't think that many players would not loose much while playing countries like Denmark and Brandenburg.
A bad defeat, yes, but one from which Prussia could easily recover, as the emperor pledged 150,000 Imperial Stormtroopers and financial aid to retake the Swedish gains after the end of the Bourbon war.
However, Kurtbrian's morale had been completely destroyed at that point due to the Swedish shock value, and he showed no interest in retaking his provinces, whatsoever, nor in taking any actions but turtling down for the rest of the session. While I appreciate that Kurtbrian stuck around rather than just quitting, it was basically a carte blanché for France (in alliance with the Dutch) to continue conquering the minor German States over the next 20 years.
I am sort of torn between sadness at seing a pleasant player leave the game and relief that he does not continue as Prussia, to be frank. Prussia is now, due to events, leaders, good play, and generous funding from Spain and Austria-Italia, an army with a country (as historical) rather than a country with an army, and whether it continues as an Imperial ally or decides to run its own game in the north, the last thing Prussia needs is timidity in military matters.
I would suggest that Kurtbrian not forsake MP entirely, but rather join some games where he plays majors (other than Austria, as an Austrian start in MP can be fully as brutal as playing a nation next to Sweden), until he has learned to enjoy both taking and receiving blows (although the joy in the latter is mostly that of plotting a fitting revenge), in an environment where a defeat means comparatively less.
I could see Kurtbrian running a nice Spain or England
