I first got HoI3 from Steam. They don't carry the expansions, but they had a "great" discount. If you got it from Steam, you were luckier than me. Mine would crash every hour or two. I used Steam's "Verify integrity of game cache" feature, which said five files were corrupted and reloaded them. I did this every time it crashed, until I couldn't take it any more.

I got a new copy from macgamestore.com, including all the expansions! It has been working great!

I bought HoI3 + all the expansions directly from the Apple Store. I don't remember how much I paid, but it was heavily discounted.

It works flawlessly even with mods. The only exception is BICE, because they never did (AFAIK) an OSX version of PodCat's .EXE - so, no matter what I tried, it always crashes during installation.

I have managed to get it to run on a Mac.
That is I personally have not but the user @PAWPAWPAW has done so (with a little help from me);)

First things first, you dont need Podcats exe on a mac.
Once you have HOI3 TFH installed and are good to go you should get the files of BICE 8.6 in a simple archive format (not the network install exe)
here it is in a RAR compressed format archive --> https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_CJOMppa3LYRkVqR1NDZVpsd1k

Unpack this into your \Hearts of Iron 3\tfh\mod\ folder and you should be good to go.
If you need more help shout. :)

Thanks for your help! I tried your method, but it crashes exactly where it crashed before: while creating (I think) the map cache at the end of the load procedure. It starts creating it (you know: the QUAD_something thinghies), actually creates about 3000-4000 of them and then first the screen becomes corrupted, then BICE crashes.

I see that you can download a pre-cached map. I tried that, too, but the program still wants to create its own cache. Maybe I'm putting the pre-cached map in the wrong directory, dunno.

As I said, I tried the most popular mods (TRP, HPP, Fox and Lion...) and all of them work flawlessly. Only BICE causes trouble on my Mac :(

The map cache should then go somewhere where your save games are (on a pc this would be in .... \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\). @PAWPAWPAW might be able to help. (he is a mac user too and runs BICE)

I followed your directions to a T and with my install, too, the game crashes on start-up. So I then copied the map cache from BlackICE and put it in the cache in the HoI3 container within the Hearts of Iron directory (subordinate to a "Paradox" directory - I can provide screenshots). None of that worked, though - it still crashes. I take it there was no solution here for Reckall because this thread fizzled into a referral to someone else outside of the thread (= PAWPAWPAW) - kind of dysfunctional, so let's finish up here, please, lol...?

I have even opened up a ticket with the publisher of the Mac version of the game - so let's get going and solve this for real!!! :) :) :)

UPDATE: This is the response from the company:

"The only thing I can suggest to you to work around this issue [=game crashing during start-up] is to lower the amount of memory taken up by the textures, both in the game itself and in the BlackICE mode - downscale them, lowering their resolutions, have them use more efficient formats like DXT instead of TGA/BMP/PNG. Then they won't be using so much space in the process memory, and it won't be running out of it. Another idea is to avoid loading mp3s - this can save some memory as well, and you can always play them from external app when you want to."

Is that the only solution (assuming that even works)...???

Don't want to hijack the thread, but since there is one on the topic, I might as well use it.
I have got this problem that currently I only have access to MacOS but still want to play HOI3. I got the game collection via steam and have now installed it on my mac.
The problem is that I can only run the game without expansion and since I think those are rather essential to the game, I would like to know if it is possible to activate those in steam on MacOS. (Don't want to spend another 10 bucks currently)
Thanks for the answer in advance.

I believe if you contact either Steam or Virtual Programming that someone there would be able to help you. They could re-set the redeem code, I suppose.

Thank you, the problem is that I have the expansions in my library and I play the game via the same Steam account on Windows (should have clarified it) but I can't seem to get the game run with the expansions on Mac. There simply is no options to activate them. On windows I just started the game up and it used TFH automatically.
I guess I will follow your advice and ask the support on Steam.
