Potentially related to my lag/performance issues, I'm confident that changing the game speed is actually having little to no effect. It's hard to tell, based on the fact I've not been able to play the game smoothly, but changing from the lowest speed to the middle speed has a very minor effect, if any on the time-of-day / date slider in the bottom right. Changing the speed to the highest setting has absolutely no effect on the time-of-day slider and the game seems to run no faster in other areas too (building construction, vehicle speed, etc). Whatever is going on, the maximum speed level is much faster in gameplay videos from other people.

Is there a way I can test this more accurately to get more info to help with a fix? And also is there a way to workaround it for now?

I can confirm! Same problem here. I think it was better before the latest patch came out. But I'm not 100% sure of that.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
2,7 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

Have you tried playing on windows? Recent Macs have intel's TurboBoost/SpeedStep feature which dynamically clocks the CPU to meet demand or save power. For me, it seems that on both Mac and Windows, Intel's "feature" doesn't recognize C:S as a high recourse process and downclocks my CPU significantly to save power...which results in a very slow city simulation.

I can confirm this as well. The part that started to stand out to me recently was the traffic does not speed up. I assumed this worked as designed until I watched a video showing cars hauling ass on someone else's roads. My cards don't do that.

FYI, I am running a brand new Macbook Pro purchased from apple.com in December!

This definitely seems like an issue with Intel's management system on MacBooks. Can someone from Paradox help pleaseeeeee?

I'm on a 2014 MacBook Pro. Intel Core i5 (2.6 GHz), 16 GM memory, Intel Iris 1536 MB. I definitely see the slowing down. When I start the city it takes me about 2.5 seconds per day at 3x speed. With 20-40k population it takes 7-8 seconds per day.

Been waiting for a fix. Pretty annoying to only have a snappy game for 10 minutes.

Please please submit this to Paradox via their trouble ticket system. I did and they're looking into this, but the more complaints we can get, the better.

Apparently the system requirements have been edited since release (After March 11 they were changed, see cached version). Now Intel cards are not supported, and I have wasted $30.

Even before release, the forums always said that Intel Integrated Graphics (like HD 4000) weren't supported. The issue described in this thread however likely has to do with the Intel CPUs themselves (specifically i5's and 7's) being throttled when the game is on.

I contacted Paradox support and provided them with dev logs and they're looking into the issue now. Please, contact them!
