I'm having the same problem, the game is totally unplayable.
CK2, HOI3 and other titles run flawlessly.
EU4 is not close to being playable on my computer at the moment.

Macbook pro 2009 spring, with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 MB graphics card (which was included in the requirements for the game as far as I know).

The game is unplayably slow even with everything turned off and running at lower-than-native resolution (to be fair, turning off both sky and sea at 1280*800 makes it smoother, but I'd rather not play it with black holes between land masses...).
For comparison, CKII runs flawlessly, never experienced any kind of slowdown whatsoever. I know that the graphic department is lower than required and that I gambled in placing the pre-order, but it seems absurd to experience such a difference in performance between the two games :)

I'm having similar issues (as posted on another thread). The game seems to load ok, but the biggest issue at the moment appears to be that even with everything except "borders" turned to "no," the little city, army, wagon etc. icons are black and not rendering. I admit that I didn't check the system requirements before purchase, which was stupid. However, if there were still any way to play, I'd be very excited. Someones suggested updating graphics drivers, but I don't think that's normally done, at least with my kind of Mac/card. Sorry, I'm not very technologically inclined...anyway, here is some system info. Hope something can be done...

Just for comparison's sake, on my work laptop (an old, old Windows) it runs beautifully and here are the specs on the video card:

Display Devices
---------------
Card name: NVIDIA NVS 3100M
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: NVS 3100M
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A6C&SUBSYS_040A1028&REV_A2
Display Memory: 2229 MB
Dedicated Memory: 474 MB
Shared Memory: 1754 MB
Current Mode: 1280 x 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Point being, if my work laptop, which has an not-so-great video card and is below Windows requirements, can run EU4 really well, why can't it run on Mac?

If I can be of any help: upgrade your RAM! It's relatively inexpensive, I got two 4gb sticks from Crucial.com for about $55 shipped. EUIV works fine on my Mac, just played through about 4 years as England with hardly a skip. I haven't touched any settings either, using political mapmode.

I am also experiencing a huge lag in the game (and even on the title screen) despite a perfectly smooth gameplay of CKII.

I estimate that the delay between a click and the execution of the action is approximately 3 or 4 seconds. The game is playable with a bit of patience, but I would love to see a performance-improving patch.

I still have "clouds" moving over the whole map, is there any way of disabling those to see whether or not it would improve the performances of the game ?
One curious thing: albeit I have disabled moving units, I can still see them on the map.

DxDiag is a windows program yup.

Please report back with describing the full system specifications of your Mac's, it helps giving a better image of the situation.
The best way to do this is start up steamclient . Select help, then system information, then copy past that information here.

The best way to do this is start up steamclient . Select help, then system information, then copy past that information here.
Please note that this reports incorrect information, at least if you have multiple videocards it will only report the active videocard. Also other numbers are wrong, like driver info, refresh rate.

The Macbook Pro has two videocards. The one that actually gets used for gaming is:

EFI Driver Version: 01.00.573

It is very hard to find the OSX system requirements. This http://www.paradoxplaza.com/games/europa-universalis-iv only lists the Windows requirements.
When buying the game I just assumed that the hardware requirements for Mac would be the same.

The game is very laggy but playable on this hardware. Scrolling the map is choppy and the system is very slow to respond to mouseclicks and key presses, sometimes it takes a long time (seconds) for it to respond to for example spacebar to pauze the game, or trying to select a unit or commanding it where to go. Next to that the animations of moving boats are very choppy. The whole thing feel sluggish and slow.

I'm having no issues in Crusader Kings II, it runs much better.

The video memory is a bit on the low end, but otherwise the specs for my machine should be fine I think?

While the game for me is playable, it is frustrating when it doesn't seem to respond a lot of time. Sometimes I've pressed spacebar 10 times before something seems to happen. I wanted to add another datapoint for the devs trying to debug this.

Note: I actively cool my laptop when playing games otherwise it will slow down when it gets hot! (CPU throttle function to prevent it from melting) Maybe this is what's happening to some people?

It could be something else entirely. I just noticed in another thread where people had lag issues, that they figured out that it was the notification for rebellions. A developer even confirmed it and made a fix in the code.

So it might be something else entirely.

For me it's not just lag, it's that some of the on-map icons (armies, etc) are only rendering in black, which I take to mean that my graphics card is simply too wuss. Out of curiosity, though, how do we get updates if a developer fixes the code?
