Mac Launcher Crash

Hello! I apologize if this problem has already been addressed, I looked through the forums but couldn't find a thread that seemed relevant to my problem. All the related threads were for the windows version.

I can't get CKII to open since the most recent update. When I click to launch the game in the Steam menu, the icon comes up on my dock and bounces a couple of times before it disappears and I get a notification that says that the game has crashed. When I hit "reopen" it can open the launcher fine and it has all my DLC as being checked but when the game actually loads none of the DLC actually seems to be there. And of course I'd really like it if the game would just load without crashing first.

I've updated steam and used the software update feature on my computer to get the most recent updates and it still crashes. So if there's anything someone can do to help I'd really appreciate it. I confess I haven't opened the game in a few weeks so I'm only assuming that the crash is from the recent update as it loaded just fine beforehand.

If you need to know I'm running OS 10.8.5 and I'm running through Steam.

Mine works fine, so it's not a known or general problem. What if you just manually run ck2.app (see the sticky FILE LOCATIONS thread above) and bypass the launcher?

In any case run a Steam Verify, if that doesn't help a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local files" in Steam
- manually delete all files left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a verify when done.

I'm having the same problem as the OP. I'm running OS X 10.8.5 and using Steam.

I've done the clean install and followed your instructions word for word. I'm still having this issue. If you'd like, I can post the text of the message I receive when I try to start the game through Steam. Although, I got the same result when I manually ran the ck2.app.

I'm getting this exact same problem, have tried clean installs and verifying it through Steam as well as directly running the app. It either immediately crashes and I can reopen, and then the launcher just freezes/hangs. Same if I run it direct.

A mod merged my thread with another and moved them to the bug forum (I'm a little confused on the distinction between tech support and bugs)

We have the same problem. A little more widespread than the original reply believes.

I tried to link a merged thread of people having similar issues but it didn't show up. Getting rid of steam, it's games, reinstalling and verifying the game hasn't solved the problem. I don't know how this would still qualify as an "unknown" problem when people have been making threads several days before this thread.

I see someone in that thread says that uninstalling Steam itself, cleaning up, then installing everything from scratch helped. Has anyone here tried that?

Didn't work for me. Got rid of every trace of steam & games by following the directions and the launcher still crashes.

Running the app from the direct file location still runs the launcher. It didn't crash this time, however it still does not recognize my DLC. For example I have Old Gods and Sword of Islam but I cannot play as Pagans or Muslims. I have done the clean reinstall to no avail.

The launcher will still open for me... as long as i don't launch the game via steam... i hope this won't screw up any to-EU4 conversions i do if and when i get the Ck2-EU4 converter dlc and EU4

I'm going to keep bumping this thread so it stays at the top. This is a serious issue impacting a fair number of people. Personally, it's made the game completely unplayable for me.

I'm experiencing this issue as well - OSX Mavericks on a Early 2011 MacBook Pro.

Just installed the game for the first time and getting this issue. Mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro running Mavericks. Got into the launcher after hitting 'reopen', but then starting the game from there detaches it from Steam, so no overlay or trading cards earnt.

Sometimes having just tried it, however I've also noticed none of my DLC that were previously working are in effect anymore.

However I think I found out why, my launcher only says 1.1, even though I've clean installed, verified and the game has always updated.

Do you guys also have Launcher v1.1?

Yeah, it works first time if I don't run it through Steam. I'd prefer to play with the overlay and achievements and stuff though.

And yes, my launcher also identifies as 1.1. What should it be?

Yes version 1.1. I am on Mac and have had no launcher crashes.

Edit: I also don't have access to steam when I can get the game to run. So no DLC, no steam community or achievements.

My DLC works even though i didn't launch through steam... I kinda want the community/Achievements though =/
