Since the hotfix all event images when they pop up barely show up and if so are greyed distorted. Any idea how to fix this?

No idea how to fix it, but it's happening to me too. (I'm playing on a Mac.)

Confirmed, the new event pictures are distorted in the Mac version. I just copied over the event pictures from an older version of CK2 and those are still working correctly. I'll file a bug report.
In the meantime, if you have the GamersGate version, you can fix it yourself. I do not use Steam, but I don't think you can restore older versions of your games there?
Anyway, for the GamersGate version:
1) Download the CK2 version 1.05f installer from GamersGate and the 1.07 patch from here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/files/22476242/CK2_1_07_patch.pkg. Also install The Unarchiver: http://unarchiver.c3.cx/unarchiver, you will need it later to unpack the patch file.
2) Copy the CK2 1.05f app from GamersGate to your desktop, right-click it and show package contents. Browse to /Contents/game/gfx/event_pictures/ and copy all files in this folder.
3) Find your main CK2 install, right-click, show package contents and paste these files to the corresponding /Contents/game/gfx/event_pictures/ folder.
4) Find and right-click CK2_1_07_patch.pkg and unpack it with The Unarchiver. In the new, unpacked folder, right-click and unpack the file called "payload".
5) You will get a barebones CK2 app with only the 1.07 patch content. Again, right click, show package contents, browse to /Contents/game/gfx/event_pictures/ and copy all files in this folder.
6) Again, find your main CK2 install and paste these files to the corresponding folder. Done.

Because patch 1.07 alone does not contain all of the event pictures. 1.05f is the main CK2 installer and has the majority of the pictures, while patch 1.07 gives you all the new pictures that were added in 1.06 and 1.07.
Ah okay that makes a lot of sense. Hmm, any idea on how to get a hold of a 1.05f? I have steam but if i had the data i should be able to do your workaround
As I said, I'm not sure if Steam allows you to download older versions of your games. I don't use it, so my knowledge in that area is lacking. Truth to be told, that it works with GamersGate is blind luck, because they are so slow to update their installers, and thus we still have access to a 1.05 version of the game. I've learned one thing though, I now make a backup of each version of the game on my backup disk, I have CK2 1.05, 1.06 and 1.07 sitting around... you never know which bugs the future will bring. 
I do hope we see a patch for this soon, as it is very easy to fix. Hell, Paradox could upload a zip file on the tech support forums as a temporary fix. I'd do it, but I don't want to get into legal trouble because of it, sorry.

It does not. It always applies everything you've bought at once. This is generally a good thing, but can be bad in circumstances like this.
It will be fixed in the next patch. No, I don't know when that will be, sorry.
BTW my mod duties are unrelated to my technical support efforts here, most mods would have no knowledge of what was being fixed in the next patch of the games they moderate forums for.
Okay thank you, and as long as the problem is being addressed thats all that matters.
Do you know or are you able to inquire if this will be a coding fix or just the pre-1.07b files bundled with the patch? I've noticed this DDS problem in some mods as well, namely Game of Thrones, so a fix at the root of the problem would be awesome. But of course any fix is welcome!
Just wanted to chime in that this is a problem for me as well. Appears to be the only thing wrong with the mac version so far though.
