Hi everyone! This is my first forum post, so please bear with me. I recently purchased an M1 Macbook air and was curious as to if anyone can let me know how the Paradox strategy games run on them? I am thinking of getting Imperator as a strategy game to play on the Mac, so I am primarily curious how it runs on the Mac? Other titles I am curious about are CK3, EU4 and HOI4!

Thanks everyone for your time!

Sorry, i'm a PC gamer, as such i have no personal experience. I know many Mac players, but no idea specifically for the M1.

If you don't get a response here (where people might come less often, you can try the respective game-specific forums, for higher chance of meeting people playing these games ith the M1.

This is probably way too late to be helpful to the OP, but others may also have this question.

I can't speak to the Macbook, but a couple months ago, I switched from a 2014 vintage iMac to a maxed-out M1 iMac and, as you might expect, the difference was night and day.

EU4 was actually perfectly fine on the 2014 iMac, but CKIII was so slow as to be unplayable, HOI4 was fine until combat started at which point it too bogged down into unplayability, and Imperator crashed constantly (note: the 2014 iMac did not meet the minimum system requirements for any Paradox game -- it's more surprising that EU4 and Stellaris ran perfectly than that the others didn't!).

They are all blazingly fast on the M1 -- so much so that I'm playing at much slower game speeds than I used to and still having to pause a lot more -- and, although I've played it way less than CKIII and Stellaris, Imperator hasn't crashed on me once so far. Again, this is an iMac with 16 GB of memory, so performance may or may not mirror what you get with your air. But, even if your performance doesn't quite match mine, it should still be more than sufficient to run any Paradox game well.

In case anyone is wondering, I just bought the new 14” M1 Pro MBP, and I:R, CK3, EU4, and Hoi4 all run flawlessly. I’ve run into a couple of issues here and there, such as the + key not speeding up the ticks on EU4, but all in all it’s a good experience. I’ve not tried late game on any of these as of yet. First 100 years of eu4 is solid tho. The new notch always gets in the way, even setting it to always appear in full screen. Only a big deal on eu4 and IR that I’ve seen.
