I'm playing a colonial nation at the moment. Irish America. I started as Tyrone and coloniesed Canada and worked my way down the American eastcoast. I than switched tag and in the independance war i received the "Turn the Table" Achievment.

Now my following task would be to conquer England. If i do this, will i get the "Luck of the Irish" Achievment?
It says that you have to be a irish nation. Can an irish Colonial Nation get this, too?

Have Scotland and Connacht as vassel already.

Why not?

If he started with an irish minor it doesn't matter what he does after that.

Code:
achievement_luck_of_the_irish = {
	id = 55

	possible = {
		ironman = yes
		start_date = 1444.11.11
		OR = {
			tag = TYR
			tag = CNN
			tag = MNS
			tag = LEI
		}
	}

	happened = {
		british_isles = {
			type = all
			owned_by = ROOT
		}
	}
}

As far as i read it he fullfills everything under "possible" and he don't need to be an irish minor anymore to trigger it.

Or are colonial nations an exception?

Yeah, it should work. The rule is that you can't become Irish later, if you start Irish it should be fine.

'Possible' check is only done when you start the campaign, so in this case you have to start at 11.11.1444 as one of Irish minors on Ironman. During game only 'happened' is checked.

Yes it works, I did it myself.

Edit: Actually, I even formed the USA before that, and I still got the achievement. I went Irish minor > colonial nation > USA.

Hm, this is very interesting actually, I assume it'll work for most achievements except TTM? would make re-reconquista a whole lot easier, and an interesting strategy for norwegian wood too.

It all depends on the exact coding. I can't remember for Reconquista, but Norwegian Wood requires the tag NOR to hold the wood, so you can't switch to a colonial nation to do it. Or Scandinavia for that matter. Ryuku achievement means you can't switch as well :p

Ah, well yeah I knew that you cant tag-switch for TTM, but good to know this doesnt work for norwegian wood :(. who would form scandinavia, anyways? :p

I'll take a look at the code then when I have some time.

I don't see how it would make re-Reconquista easier, the hard part is surviving early lol. If you can make a CN, that means you lasted 10 years into the game. I'm not sure how a CN becomes easier than East Africa or India in terms of building a power base, especially because you have to manage to survive long enough just to reach exploration at all.

well, I was thinking along the lines of the old "move to america, become huge" strat that worked quite well when I did it back in 1.6... africa seems like a more difficult place to build a powerbase, and how do you reach east africa and india now that the long-range vassal trick doesn't work anymore to avoid coring range restrictions?

You might have a point that im underestimating the time it takes to get a CN going, i'll have to try it. in theory it seems like a great trick to get around the 50% LA restriction though, and fighting castile in america is always easier than fighting them in iberia.

Same way I did it in 1.7; full annex someone and sit on the OE until Castile + others takes your stuff back home. In 1.7 I hit Ethiopia but they're much stronger now, so someone else might be a better candidate, else you just do India via declaring on someone and then landing forces post-dow into nations with military access and marching them over.
