Did it as tyrone. Focus on Diplo Tech. When you hit dilpo tech 7, level 3 idea in exploration and a colonial range advisor, you can colonise the eastern part of greenland. From there to canada and than form a CN.
I used my merchants to collect in champagne for 1 gold/month and in bordeaux for around .8 gold/month. You will need money.
Just form an alliance with your neighbours, scotland and england. Hope that england doesn't want you as a vassal.
Do not go to admin tech 7 or higher or your CN will have a crappy idea in that slot. Just go to 6 and waste all the rest on stability to gain more money. I had two colonies at the same time before my exodus. That will cost a lot of money for tyrone. Drained my reserves from 1k to 400 gold in a few years.
Before you switch, cancel all treaties with your allies, give your CN all money. and up its tarfiffs so they want to become independant. Than release and play as CN.
After tag switch, declare on tyrone and vassalize them. "Turn the table" achievement. Than after 10 years annex them to gain a foothold from witch you can fabricate claims. Again hope that england doesn't want your provinces in America until you hit a forcelimit of around 20. Had to spend another 300 gold to defend the first english invasion with mercs...

I did the Achievment after 4 wars against enland in 1701 that way.
Little trick, if you can manage to destroy englands fleet, you will be able to lure the english army onto ireland and block of the strait after that. Free conquest of england...
