This is my first AAR. When I started playing this game, I didn't intend to write an AAR about it, as I wasn't expecting to survive long enough for it to be interesting. Anyway, I am up to the year 1497, and have managed to liberate Meath and Wales from the English, while keeping my reputation at honourable.

I wasn't expecting to write an AAR, I haven't took any notes or developed a story for up to this point in the game, but I will post the output file I created using the History Parser utility, so you can see my progress up to this point. But I plan to write in more detail from that point on.

* Mar 03, 1465: France joined the war on the same side as England, Portugal and Castile in their war against Eire and Scotland.

See what I was up against there? It should be no wonder then, that I lost that war. But I didn't lose very much though, just a few ducats is all... Nothing big.

I really hated that alliance between England, Portugal, Castile, and France. It is all the western european powers in one grand alliance... Up against the puny alliance of Eire and Scotland.

Fortunately, England later left that alliance to join a more manageable alliance with Austria. This is where I managed to fight my successful war to regain Meath and capture Wales.

My DP settings were 100% Land, 90% offensive (later moved towards 100%) and my quality was 40%. I want to keep my quality low, so that the troops are not so expensive. I don't see the naval setting as very valuable right now, because I don't need colonists yet.. and my Navy is quite powerful, with 5 warships (due to random event) and 17-21 galleys, I built myself. I didn't touch any of the other settings yet, just had them move through random events.

Plus keep in mind, that I am 2 levels higher than England in land tech and 1 level higher in naval tech. Factor all these together and you can see how I managed to rack up so many victories in battle. In the war where I got wales and Meath, I held only those two provinces, but I had a 57% victory score, mostly due to battle victories! I like to go after the little 1k english armies, it's a great way to rack up easy victory scores.

I should also point out that I was helped out by the fact that many of England's provinces were held by rebels, due to events and war exhaustion. As you can imagine, being in an alliance with France, Castile, and Portugal, you do get into many long wars...

Now, that's where I am up to in the game so far. Any suggestions on which direction to pursue next?

Oh, and by the way, I am playing on Normal/Normal... Eire is quite a challenge on any setting though.

damn, you really got hit with some negative events in the beginning.

that's pretty much how my game started out. i waited until england was involved on the mainland and DOW'ed and took meath. but to get the AI to cough it up, i had to cross the irish sea and take wales and midlands, and even then it took several peace offers before they accepted.

being a small nation has its advantages in research.

for my DP, i think i went centralization first to increase my trade revenues and infrastructure. my plan was to build the home provinces up first, building fortresses and installing tax collectors, and then possibly think about outward expansion. i'm up to 1740 now and have basically stayed out of european affairs, save the occassional war on behalf of my ally spain.

Yikes! Wales is a really happening place.

Actually, you've got tons of material to write with here...just take a look at those Wales events and turn it into a story about some poor bugger serving in the army that was occupying the province...

Well, I'd like to look back on what I played as ancient history, and I don't feel enthusiastic about writing in detail on it, when I've forgotten some of the details.

But in my next update, I will be sure to take some notes and come up with something more detailed... Just think of this as a preview to the AAR to come, and that the date begins on 1497, rather than 1419.

you should see my ireland game then. i have become the 2nd leading colonial power (behind portugal) with colonies in africa, north america, australia, and the spice islands. once i got meath from england and built up my infrastructure, i just kicked around waiting for a random explorer. the rest... is history.

But what you really have to decide is whether your leprechaun is a 'Lucky Charms' (geez, what is it with you and cereal characters ) or more of the evil, killing, bad horror movie ilk.

They are quite different species as I'm sure you know.
