Basically just wondering if there is a way to reduce all characters fertility to reduce the number of characters in my dynasty and make it more interesting.

cheers

Not unless you go into your save and reduce it for each member :)

But you could ask around in the modding subforum :) ... someone might be able to make you an event that will lower the Fertility score of characters.

I don't know the first thing about modding, but wouldn't it be possible to design a trait with a fertility penalty that triggers for 100 % of characters, at least for future games? I'd be careful with fertility reduction, though. In my latest campaign I have a king who is 70 by now and only managed to produce one child, without any visible negative traits for him or his wife.

I am sure it is ... but there are a limited amount of traits available, so unless you play Vanilla, then all of them are probably already taken.

OP should try the Duke/King of Croatia ;) ... that family have a really bad fertility ... and then only marry women with less than 2 siblings. Should be interesting ;)

Also the fertility-effects of traits don't work properly AFAIK.

In stead of lowering the ferititly. make it more likelier for people to die, there are several events that deal with the death of persons. You can lower the MTTH of them or increase the age-limit (for dying at young age) or lower it (for dying at old age).

f.e. in db/character_health_events.txt change these things
Code:
character_event = {
	id = 999

	picture = "event_plague"

	trigger = {
		condition = {
			type = not
			value = {
			  type = age value = 5 [COLOR="lime"]#make this higher if you want older children to die of young age
[/COLOR]			  }
		}
	}

	mean_time_to_happen = {
		months = 450 [COLOR="lime"]#lower this to make the event fire more often[/COLOR]

I haven't noticed a character being barren in game, is that trait present?

hey can I create a event that fires only during childhood, the effect being that people have a much much higher risk of death, but then the chance of getting the event is eliminated once u reach a certain age.

Yes, you can just edit event 999 (see my previous post in this thread). Just set age value to 16 (currently it is 5).
