So, I'm starting a new game, reptilian race on retinal world, not that it matters, and my home world ends up with 54 % habitability. A planet my species evolved on. Further, any other planet in the vicinity, spawned or edited, with a wet and warm climate ends up with 25 % habitability. How is this possible? Logically, my home planet should have a 100 % (unless my origin was something to do with an apocalypse or similar). No fun playing the game like this, please help!

This is a modded origin, so the issue is with the mod.

turn off all mods and try again

if it's still not working delete the content of */documents/paradox/stellaris/ (keep the save games folder though) and try again

if it then still isn't working do a clean reinstall and watch out for the mods you download

Thank you, but I know the difference between 'stability' and 'habitability'. The words may have the same suffixes, but they're quite different concepts. Also, their indicators are not even close on the screen. It's habitability.

you're still playing a mod, there is no "retinal world" in vanilla

Looks like the typical "I installed 50 mods without paying attention to incompatibilities and now my game does weird things!" situation.
I'd say it's almost certainly a compatibility issue.

Might very well be! Last time I played, though, I had all the same mods but not the same problem. So I don't know.

Well the game has been updated few times lately, which did break some of my mods so you're best bet is to do some searching what is breaking where.


And one thing you might need to do, is create "empty mod folder" with nothing inside it on the launcher, then boot up the game, get to the tittle screen, and close the game and then change your mods in case the Launcher is messing with you if you use it.

It's also possible that one of the mods was changed and expanded, and now overrides one of the files required by other mods.
Or your load order is different, which causes overrides to happen in a different order.

In any case, for a mod list that does more than just add a few new things without overriding anything crucial, I'd recommend using Irony Mod Manager, since it has a conflict solver that, at the very least, will notify you of existing compatibility problems, and with a bit of experience, allows you to solve them.

The answer is yes 90% of the time.

The problem still persists, though. I've turned mods on and off, but what I really hoped was that someone else had experienced the same thing and knew what was happening. Someone has had to, right? I can't figure out which mod does this, and it's effing annoying.

Your best bet is to go to mod page on Steam and check the comments section. See if anyone else is having the same issue. Try using Google to find if there are any Steam threads about the issue as well. That's really the best thing to do when a mod goes sideways like that.
