  • Crusader Kings II
Hi,

When I bought CKII for Windows 7 via Steam (I think it was in June 2013?) I believe I got The Old Gods included for free as part of an offer that was being done at the time. I'm not sure exactly how this worked, I don't seem to have anything in the DLC folder. Was it included in the CD key? Or it's possible I did have something in the DLC folder and it's been overwritten. I recently finished my 2.04 game and downloaded the most recent patch and this seems to have messed up my The Old Gods access. If I run the 2.0.4 version I still get The Old Gods Hint as soon as I start the game:

OldGodsHint.jpg

If I run the 2.3 version this doesn't happen. Can you advise please? Is it possible to check if my CD key should have included The Old Gods? Is there anything that can be done to restore The Old Gods if I should have a copy?

Thanks,

Merlin

When you start a new game, take a look at the DLC icons at the bottom left of your screen. Those are the DLCs you have activated for that gaming session. As long as you select ToG in the launcher before launching the game, you should have the corresponding icon appear, and the DLC activated.

Also click on the Contents button in the first game screen, active DLCs are listed there.

That Old Gods hint showing up all the time even if you had newer DLCs too was actually a bug, which has been fixed in 2.3 .

Hmm. I'm concerned that in the process of upgrading past 2.0.4 (which happened automatically early 2014), and then downgrading to 2.0.4 to finish my game, and then upgrading again, that something bad happened to my copy of The Old Gods. I wasn't actually playing a pagan in my game, I went from 1066 as Harold II. The Old Gods DLC is not listed in the launcher or in my DLC content. However I think I used to see the option to start a new game from the earlier date which was only available with The Old Gods. Even if I downgrade again to 2.0.4, my options as to which dates I can start from seem to have changed significantly from what I remember. Also, I never previously selected The Old Gods in my launcher, it was just something that seemed to happen automatically.

1) Is there any way of confirming whether I should have The Old Gods (or ever did have The Old Gods)? Can anyone confirm whether that offer existed, that Crusader Kings II was bundled with The Old Gods shortly after The Old Gods was released? As I say it doesn't show up in my DLC, either in game Content or in the dlc folder. Would such a bundle behave any differently in terms of the DLC to buying the DLC separately?
2) Was the launcher changed to allow you to choose which DLC you want to run? I don't remember seeing this before. Could this change be relevant to my problem?
3) AndrewT, you said "That Old Gods hint showing up all the time even if you had newer DLCs too was actually a bug, which has been fixed in 2.3". However until very recently I didn't have any other DLC. After I finished my 2.0.4 game I started browsing the DLC and thought I might as well get the free Yuletide song while I was deciding which of the many DLC packages I wanted to buy, but that was the first extra DLC I've added. Can you confirm if The Old Gods hint showed up even in a vanilla game (no other mods or DLC)?

It is entirely possible I misunderstood what I'd bought, and was misled by the Old God hint bug, as I wasn't actually playing as a pagan. However if I did have The Old Gods DLC, then obviously it would be nice not to have to pay £10 for something I own already.

1) Sorry, I have no idea or record of what temporary offers for what DLcs there were or weren't at various points in the past. Look in Steam/DlC and the Contents button in CK2 - either you have tOG or you don't. There's no way you had it then it got mysteriously removed.

2) the Launcher has always been the place you choose which of the DLCs you've bought are active or are not. No, that's never changed

3) Yes

4) You are hugely over-thinking this Old Gods thing. Let it go!

What actual gameplay problem do you have, if any?

I don't have a gameplay problem. I have a problem where I thought I owned something but it now turns out I don't. If I was being misled by a bug, that's fine. However I object to being told I am "hugely over-thinking this Old Gods thing". I was apparently misled by "this Old Gods thing", which you have acknowledged as a bug which wasn't fixed for a long time, into thinking I owned something which I didn't. I'd prefer not to be told to "Let it go!", when I thought I was effectively being asked to pay £10 which I thought I already owned. "Yes that was a bug, sorry if you were misled" would have been fine.

I'm sorry, I was attempting a little levity. Yes, the display of The Old Gods hint regardless of what you had was a bug.
