Lost divisions when "liberating" provinces

After "liberating" soviet provinces from the Germans my attacking force dissappears (yes, they simply vanish) once the province is won and the Soviets reclaim it. What happened to my divisions? I'm playing the basic installed game of HoI2.

I do not have any alliance the soviets.

Check your redeployment queue. They have probably been expelled as "political undesirables", and are in the process of being SR'd back to your capital.
