Something I noticed...
If you're in a naval battle containing a fleet of combined CV's and other units, even if all of the CV's are sunk, the carried air units remain carried until you order them off. I have had cases where such air units survived for months after their carriers were sunk. (Note that there were sufficient other units to possibly fool the game in terms of fleet size; in the case I saw this, the fleet had 14 vessels, among them 2 CV's, 9 BB's and 3 CA's, and was carrying 1 torpedo bomber unit. 4 vessels, both CV's and 2 of the CA's, were sunk; 10 units - 9 BB's and 1 CA - returned to port, carrying the torpedo bomber unit with them.)
However, once you give the air unit any orders at all, it resumes functioning properly and recognizes the fact that the naval force does not have any carriers (and thus will not land there).
Properly, if all the CV's in a group are destroyed, the air units should either be destroyed or automatically seek a new base within range. (Preferably the latter.)
