So, i was playing as the byzantine emperor, and suddenly i noticed the varangians weren't available to be hired any longer. I searched for the title and saw it belonged to the king of Norway!

First, how the hell did it end up with him? Isn't the varangian guard title a vassal of mine? how could he inherit it like that?

Second, now that the title belongs to a king, how will the inheritance work? Will it remain open elective or will it pass to his children?

Third, how can i get the varangians back?

Thank you all!

1. The possible way for that to happen is that, the king was serving in the varangian guard and then he somehow inherited the varangian guard since the varangian guard is open elective.

2. the inheritance, shown if you hover over the varangian guard title, is still open elective supposedly, and it will go a random courtier in his court (including landless children), but it will be the king's vassal, not yours anymore.

3. to get it back... cheat. But (i don't know if this works), you can marry a random courtier of the varangian guard with a random lowborn woman, impregnate the woman, declare the bastard legitimate, try to get the bastard inherit the varangian guard, then your emperorship. too much rng and the bastard will probably be a norwegian...
