So here's the story

Bohemia, Hungary, Ottomans and Austria were in the Catholic League and I (Russia) was in the Protestant League with OPM Wurzburg as protestant leader.

The league fired and Wurzburg got immediately occupied. However, we still had 15% positive war score due to my armies beating up the Austrians. I was unable to unsiege Wurzburg as I had to get past the forts of Austria and friends. I decided to siege Constantinople instead while their armies went to siege the capital fort of my vassal the golden horde.

Just as I was able to finish the siege of Constantinople, the war ended with Catholics being declared the dominant religion and my vassal being transferred over to Austria.

How did this happen?! I understand Wurzburg was completely sieged and extreme war exhaustion but we had positive war score?? And to top it all off, Austria got my vassal?

If anyone can explain, please do.

Iirc "utterly defeated" isn't being displayed anywhere except the peacedeal.

Unless they changed it there's no way for you to tell.

Having your warleader fully occupied is a bad habit either way. War will be over faster than you can say "oops". Even worse on higher difficulties.

Made a mistake by going after Constantinople.

True but it would have been impossible to get past all the forts.

Conversely, I was France as emperor of HRE and OPM Lorraine as head of protestant league declared war. I fully sieged them immediately but couldn't enforce religious supremacy until I had at least 60% warscore even after 10 years so not sure how this is determined.
