Mechwarriors, it doesnt even appear he's much more than barely played past "tutorial " level of early missions.

I'm all for deconstruction in all things but assumptions may be premature on the data available...

And as has been said, Iron Man to come will be an entirely different animal.

Traveler character creation huh?.

I'm sure we'll hear plenty of "real gamers" lamenting all manner of head shots, ammo explosions , and "missed on 95% seriously?" at go live. :p

I'd definitely want to wait until I've played it to make a call one way or another. Repairs can be really expensive from the looks of it though. Cohh seems to have a knack for getting that Blackjack ripped apart; he's improving but still seems to have a lot to learn about positioning. He had more than one mission where the repair bills cost more than he got paid. I could easily see someone who gets shot up like that a few times in rapid succession having no choice but to scrap mechs or risk bankruptcy.

I would like to see lots of cheap complete and partial light mechs available for sale. They should be quite common compared to heavier mechs. This would also provide a method of recovery from losing several mechs early on in the campaign.

Then you are lucky - judging by streams light mech parts litter every shop (and after-mission salvage list ;) ) it seems. If you can afford it - buying a locust or commando is easy.

But it is still more expensive to buy a light mech by buying parts from shops than actually fixing a cored medium.

Good luck repairing your BlackJack by that method btw. It is the only one in the game, afaik (I haven't seen the AI field any so far, but I could be wrong there)

And I find it a bit premature to not find the game punishing enough, by judging it from early missions. When people hit the 3½+ skull missions I suspect the picture will begin to shift.

Once we all start playing, I think we will find for the majority that no permadestruction from ct destruction is better.

For the better players, I think they will find they could use it to add a bit more difficulty.

Having it added as an Ironman option would be nice for them.

With that instant build [Mod: Edit: Dismissive] salvage, I defiantly dont think its punishing enough. Still dont understand how your finding pristine pieces of salvage already with weapons on them that techinacly you already rolled for when you choose salvage rights. putting mech destroyed to 50% is going to be my first action coupled with increasing salavage to atleast 6.

Ill be self scrapping any of the mechs i lose to cT coring :)

devs said previously that there is a json variable to set chance of losing the mech if CT was cored - game ships with it set to zero, but it's a float so you can set it to 1 if you want it to happen all the time, or anything between 0 and 1.

and given that we have that, everyone who wants CT kills to matter more, will have that option with an easy tweak - seems like a great way to test their vanilla balance while letting those of us who want it harder, have fun.

Personally, so far I watched 2 streams that had over 20 missions between them, and there wasn't a single time where the player lost a mech without making several major bad decisions to achieve that.

The game seems to be very well balanced in terms of tactics and is one of those few games where whenever you take major losses, you should always start out with a preconception that it's because you made very poor decisions.

After watching cohhs stream i think the consequenses of losing a mech are not severe enought.
I would suggest to remove the mech if the CT is destroyed and instead add two parts of this mech to your inventory. So its not that bad as losing it complete but you have to "organise spare parts" throught slavage or by buying a part to rebuild it.
the problem with this, is it rewards you for losing, as salvage has no time sink or cost assoicated with it. Its an instabuild. So if you already have one peice of a centurion. you dont care about risking yours becuase it will be immiedialty rebuilt with weapons on mission end.

I think they really need to reconsider 'insta-building' a mech from salvaged parts. It's just kind of ridiculous that it takes me more time and money to replace a lost arm on a functional mech, than to assemble a new one from scrap.

It is slightly strange that fixing badly damaged 'mech will take time and money but parts from destroyed 'mechs can be put together instantly for no charge with free weapons as a bonus. I can imagine there will be times when it's better to just use the salvaged 'mech rather than fix the damaged one.

This one might not even be that easy to mod. Sure you might be able to make it require more parts but that's hardly a fix.

This however is pretty minor detail to me. Battles and the story are the main thing for me and I'll definitely enjoy those.

Personally i think it should be an either or situation....

Instabuild and equip from salvage is okay IF the player loses CT cored mechs. Or the player has to spend time to build a new mech IF ct coring doesnt destroy the mech. Having both set to easy mode at the same time is whats bothering me lol

Lore wise, it's actually pretty danged hard to 'destroy' a mech, disable yes, make ridiculously expensive to repair to the point of possibly not being worth it absolutely. That's part of why Battlemechs are so heirloom quality.

One of the books out there is a series of Short Stories* about one of the first Grasshoppers ever made, and comes with a series of events in its existence across the succession wars right up to the Jihad when it's FINALLY decided to just part it out instead of repairing it yet again. There's even a point where a Merc company salvages it, and has it around as much so its engine can be a backup for their commander's mech as anything else. there's more than a few of these stories that end with it in pretty rough shape and knocked out of the fight at that.

*EDIT: Forgot to name it. The book is Legacy - and it's pretty fun at that!
