I do not get how this happens. Whilst going into battle with full morale, I start it with much less! Here's a pic. (Note that I do not know much about eu4).

When you engage in battle, the morale bar changes length such that the total length is the maximum morale of both sides. In your screenshot, England has 5.6 max morale while you only have 3.6. Their bar should be 100% full at the start of the battle while yours will only be 3.6/5.6 = 64% full. If you hover over the morale bars in the battle screen, you should be able to see the current morale value.

Ok so it's relative morale got it. How do I win in such a scenario given that all of my armies are on the right of panama?

I don't know what you mean by this???

New World natives can have a tough time beating the Europeans because they'll be behind in institutions, behind in tech, and behind in ideas. If you started this war, it was probably a bad move. You should wait until the Colonial Nation forms from the English colonies, then attack that. Their overlord won't get called into the war and usually doesn't stop it either.

As it stands now, you're going to get crushed in every one-on-one battle. Luckily, the AI usually doesn't land enough troops at once, so you should be able to get a flanking advantage. Split your army up into multiple stacks such that you have enough infantry to cover their entire front line +4 cavalry and as much artillery as you can in each stack (trying to keep it even between stacks). Then send only a single stack in at once, keeping the others nearby in reserve. Bring the second stack in a few days later. After they're in, bring in a third stack and so on. You might be able to retreat the first stack out if they still have more than 50% morale, let them refresh morale and bring them back in later.

Honestly though, you're going to be hammered b/c they have higher discipline/tactics/morale. Getting an Old World ally that can take on England might help, but the AI is not always dependable. You can try taking a bunch of loans and seeing if they'll except a peace deal.

If you're a new player, I'd recommend not playing a New World native your first go-round. Stick with something like the big guys (Ottomans/France). If you played other Paradox titles before, any mid-size country will probably be a good start.

BTW - this thread should probably be in the main forum.

He’s got higher morale, tactics, and discipline than you. He’s filled out more military ideas and his technology is more advanced.

So your real issue is fighting against a technologically superior foe, and they are braver than you because they know it. Unfortunately it’s not something you can just fix other than getting your tech and ideas up.

Don’t attack his main army head on, try to defend in Mountains, and if you can, pick off his army if it splits up. The AI is notoriously bad at overseas wars, so you can definitely win. Just try to win out by attrition, a lot of his troops will die from the crappy climate and from being in hostile territory. Don’t be afraid the hire mercenaries

Human wave.

Thats the exact wrong thing to do.
If you absolutely have to win:
Match their frontline with Infantry, add just as many cannons if tech is high enough., add 4 regiments for the sides (preferably horses).
The rest of the army stands next door and gets send in small amount every few days to feed extra men and morale into the fight.

Best thing you can do right now is a discipline advisor.
Excellent point.
You wont win based on morale anyway. 5% extra disc will help your troops kill more enemy guys.
