As a US citizen this makes no sense whatsoever. The political power of individual states is meaningless on the scale of HOI.

Unless you're going to argue for state/canton/province level detail for each country it's meaningless fluff.

As a US citizen, I second this statement. Even a 2nd US civil war would not need individual state political powers to work in HOI series

USA is not the center of the world, especially not in a WW2 context.
Deal with it.

I am not saying the USA is the 'centre of the world'.

I am saying that there are many nations in the game already that are smaller and less significant than USA States that were 'abstracted'.

It would be like in Europe, if the Devs decided Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands are irrelevant individually and just smashed them together as a single entity called 'The Low Country'.

As a US citizen this makes no sense whatsoever. The political power of individual states is meaningless on the scale of HOI.

Not when you consider civil wars in the game. Internal matters should be based on the opinions of the 48 states.

Unless you're going to argue for state/canton/province level detail for each country it's meaningless fluff.

In most nations besides the USA that have 'states', they exist purely as administrative sub-divisions of the national Government with derived and not 'de facto' authority.

In the USA the 48 (50) states are sovereign entities. They are separate Governments from the Federal Government.

I am not aware of any other nation with such a structure.

The states are not sovereign. They are levels of government underneath the federal umbrella. They were sovereign under the articles of confederation and possibly before the civil war if you squint real hard.

After the US civil war that is not true.

On the scale HOI matters in Rhode Island is not an important distinction from New Hampshire in the United States. Even if you argue "regional differences" by the time a civil war would come about in the US anyway, you're so far off of historical guidelines that making the whole "region" think the same is just as plausible as everything else.

Fair points.

At least New Jersey is independent.

If we go by that logic, I would be protesting all over the forum, crying that India is not represented properly unless every single little princely state out of this map is represented independently:

Internal administrative divisions don't matter in this game. And not in WW2 or in the general era. Be that for USA or anything else.

Happy World War Wednesday everyone, now let's all get along :)
I have just been watching it on YouTube and I have to confess that the sprites are done very well for this version when you see them animated.
Nothing like the horrid ones in HOI 3.

In spite of what I said in my opening post this version may end up converting me into liking them
The more I see of the game, and the interface, the more I look forward to the release.
It really does look stunning and now I have seen the gameplay, the animated map and the units in action...wow!
Its a work of art :)
