I have been away from the forums for a while and have spent the last few hours catching up.

The interface is absolutely beautiful!
Probably the best I have ever seen, anywhere.
The color palette used, the artwork especially the commander portraits and the ships, but also the small icons look amazing.

The 3D map is also stunningly beautiful, but for me an enhanced HOI3, 2D map would have been sufficient for a game of this scale.

Like many others have said, I would also like to have a counters only option at all levels of zoom.
The 3D models (sprites) look great, but I don't think they fit a game at this scale. I'm probably a bit old fashioned in this regard, and respect your decision to try something different, and it certainly won't affect my decision to purchase the game, but I will be trying out the first mod that can get rid of them.
I don't mind stylized counters but prefer the NATO ones, but definitely not 3D sprites.

I have heard rumors that the supply is still not working right.
Please, please make sure the supply is working before you release this game, I really don't want to have to go through the year or so it took to sort out the supply in HOI3 again!

The supply system has a lot of potential and is looking pretty good. The issue is with oil being included in the production of items instead of having it's own separate supply system.

But the game is just too awesome to care about that. :eek:

The only thing that really bugs me is the simplification of the US states and the lack of an internal US State mechanic.

Major major major issue right there.

Even the smallest US States are larger than some European countries in the game.

I love the art style. Very bold, lush. A total dream come true compared to the dry, thin, drab, boring colours of HOI3.

Oh, it is better than that, sure.

I just would have preferred grittier and more rocky textures and earthier tones.

All the pretty colours look like energy space shields covering every country.

It looks cartoonish.

Even the smallest US States are larger than some European countries in the game.

The states in HoI IV have nothing to do with political states. They are based on geographic or strategic importance. You built on a state level after all, and thus it doesn't matter if you build in MA, Rhode Island, etc, or simple one big state called "New England" because the building conditions are about the same for the whole region.

I don't think that states in US are too bad because not much warfare is happening there. And when it is the game is almost over anyway. So them failing on borders in US (even of that I am unsure yet I'd have to play first it could be fine) is really not as bad as them failing on some major theater where there is lots of ground combat going on.

I love the interface and UI style, because it closely resembles the UI of World Of Tanks, a game that I like a lot.

I am planning to mod this game once it is out and put in complete WoT style interface into the game, with elements from sister games like World of Warships and World of Warplanes for their respective areas.

States in this game don't represent political divisions. They represent general areas where economic and military stuff happens.

Absolutely agree on the artwork, I love it. I think HoI 3 is a bit of an in between style of going from the old 2 to a more higher res 2D/3D environment that could be done better. What we are seeing now is beautiful great!

I personally absolutely hate the sprites, I can't handle them in Darkest Hour, HoI III and I really really hope for a default option to go back to NATO counters.

I thought hoi3 looked bad too. Then I got Darkest Hour.

Darkest Hour is far more colourful and has a brighter atmosphere than HoI3.

Yeah, "state" is more of a common term for the level over "province".

As for removing sprites, the devs have said this will be easily moddable, so just buy the game, hit F5 a few times in Steam Workshop, and download the mod that someone will inevitably release on day one ;) .

I recommend following the "World War Wednesdays" series on YouTube, it features the devs playing sessions of HOI4 and it's very informative. First episode went up last week :) .

The states in HoI IV have nothing to do with political states. They are based on geographic or strategic importance. You built on a state level after all, and thus it doesn't matter if you build in MA, Rhode Island, etc, or simple one big state called "New England" because the building conditions are about the same for the whole region.

States in this game don't represent political divisions. They represent general areas where economic and military stuff happens.

I think you misunderstand me.

I was saying that by neglecting internal US Political Divisions that it doesn't represent the nation properly.

And how does it not represent the nation properly? Germany and France had way more states/provinces in 1936 than the game represents, but does it affect anything at all other than factory construction?

What need is there to have all the states?

Each is an individual sovereign political unit.
