I know it's really early to be talking about this, but let me throw out a few figures for you guys.

Hearts of Iron 1: 11/24/2002

Hearts of Iron 2: 01/04/2005

Hearts of Iron 3: 08/07/2009

Hearts of Iron 4: 06/06/2016

This means that there is more and more time between the release of two sequential HOI games each time one is developed. Almost seven years have passed since the release of HOI 3. Are we to believe that there will be 9-10 years until the release of HOI 5, if ever?

What timeframe can we expect? I might have to wait until the release of great mods and expansions until I buy HOI4, because some of the systems look over abstracted to me, but that's just my opinion. It has me looking forward to the next game in the series.

They spend alot more time developing the games now (see how much content that have been added to EUIV and CKII) then they did before.

I don't mind if we have HOI4 for many years, as long as it gets constant updates and good DLCs.

I'll be a lot of the added time is QA. They probably could manage to release a game as fast as they used to, but then you'd have a buggy, unplayable mess on release that goes nothing like the relatively smooth EU4/CK2 launch. Personally, I like the direction PDS has gone in this respect, and applaud the risks they're taking (longer dev cycle = better game, but higher costs).

Seeing how they consistently improve on released games with DLC that is really worth your money and expands on the experience of the game... The longevity of Paradox titles is insane and pretty reliable. But I think these are exactly the reasons for the longer development times. Just look at all the other companies rushing content and not taking care of old IPs. Paradox can get away with developing all those years because they keep their customers entertained and keep a steady flow of revenue during development. Others only make up with that through pre-orders. There isn't even any great sort of pre-order bonuses with PI.

I love how PI does things and I hope they keep quality up, despite the cash-grabbing standard business practices in the industry.

I know that people who don't like the look of HOI IV say 'I am going to wait for HoI 5'. Why would it be better than HOI IV if the ways you want? It might be?

Here is my guess, so long as they can expand, update, grow HOI IV with DLCs that will have good sales I think they will. I think it will take either the sales slowing down of DLCs or a new engine has been developed that lets them do really cool things is ready. How long will that be??

Why would you by a new game if the current one meets your needs? (Bad AI & F...ed up supply (but at least it had supply) makes HoI 3 a game that doesn't meet my needs)

That's a good point. I loved the Total War Series when I was younger. Now that I know CK2, I could never go back, since it has everything I want. The only issues I have are with the netcode (desync) or performance issues on certain speedlevels, which would only be helped by a new engine. So you're pretty on point with that. As long as they can keep innovating what they already have and keep it up to date in relation to performance of similar titles, HoI IV will do for a good long while.
