I was just curious about the specifics - especially in relation to what approach would help sell copies to more traditional Paradox fans or say, maybe 4X or Grand Strategy fans in general.

It's hard for me to see it with fresh eyes and know if Cohh's stream communicates the depth of the mechanics to people unfamiliar with them given that I played the Beta (ie. what does Cohh doing things the wrong way communicate mechanically?).
Getting people excited to try it will sell more copies than explaining how it works. I presume that's why the game is in Cohh's hands.

I've now caught up on Cohh's videos. This morning he went and refitted his mechs with more armor and heat sinks, resulting in better configs overall. He's also started understanding the mechanics better, resulting in him making better choices both in the mech bay and while maneuvering his mechs.

It's been fun watching him figure the game out. As he has, he has been getting better about communicating what he's doing and why.

The difference is night and day. Before he refit his mechs he was wasting half his income just repairing damage and trying to replace destroyed weapons. After he specialised and armoured up his mechs he started pulling way ahead.

It kinda makes me worry that income might be too high.

Yea, apparently he actually reads his YouTube comments. Kudos to him for that, someone willing to learn goes far in the long term.

I wrote him a lengthy essay about mech outfitting as a comment to one of his YouTube videos.
He 'hearted' it, so he clearly read it. Then next time he played was the episode in which he fixed his mechs. He didn't do it perfectly, but he improved the loadouts bit by bit after each of the next two missions. It was fun hearing him basically repeating to his audience some of what I wrote. He did make a carbon copy of the Griffin I outlined in that post, and then instead of using it as his scout/sniper which it would have been perfect for, he used a Panther in that role, albeit it worked out fine, and used the ultra mobile Griffin as an immobile pillbox for bullwark. *Facepalm*

But yea, the improvement none the less was night and day, and I fully expect he'll read subsequent comments. And yes, I did make subsequent comments myself.

I think he'd have even more income if he'd just max salvage and sell extra mechs too.

New stream on NGNGTV live right now! https://www.twitch.tv/ngngtv

He didn't even need to go max salvage. Just sell off some of that stuff he didn't use, like the Spider parts he got from one mission. From what I am seeing though I may run salvage at a minimum one tick above average. Max salvage on headhunting missions for sure. He seemed to be getting a lot of + parts from those missions. Downside for going max salvage is you really do not get much of a C-bill bonus if there are any optional secondary objectives.

I couldn't see anything about limited shots or ammo.
I know it doesn't use separate ammo, and on other weapons that is where number of shots is listed (he was looking at AC20 and almost made the mistake of only installing 1 ton of ammo)
Has anyone seen anything to confirm or deny the Limited Ammo nature of Flamers?

Not that I have seen in the 2 streams that I have been watching. So far no one has salvaged a Firestarter, or even equipped a Flamer.
And the AI Firestarter that I recall did not last long enough to make counting its Flamer use worthwhile enough to be informative.

Maybe in the currently Live NGNG Broadcast, or in one of those sure to be broadcast over these next three weeks.

I would be surprised if Flamers no longer had limited charges, but you never know. It is worth confirming.

So much has been confirmed in the Pre-Release Build already, but no Streamer I have yet found has utilized Flamers, so it is on the short list of “Not Yet Confirmed.”

Though it is probably just a matter of time until this too is confirmed.

Best I've got. I dont recall with enough certainty to go digging, and things are moving quick enough that a streaming video ought to pop up in the mean time anyway. :)

I can tell you that when Cohh looked at the flamer, it did not have ammo in its description.

I have not seen any streamer actually equip one, so I’m not sure we have any info beyond that,

I was just curious about the specifics - especially in relation to what approach would help sell copies to more traditional Paradox fans or say, maybe 4X or Grand Strategy fans in general.
I can't tell what sells copies to them. I know what sold me and that was the informative approach. Cohh does one very important thing - showing his viewers the game is about to be out there, which means at least some of them might be interested, for various reasons. The rest is down for particular tastes.

They got me at three points:

1) Managing a mercenary band, which also means having to use what's on hand, rather than having pristine out-of-the-box units, making loot very important (as in "actually useful") part of the game. Being able to customize your mechs' is only another plus on top of that.

2) Having to worry about your income, negotiating for parts, money and reputation (and there is a cool map of the galaxy that goes with it).

3) Combat is turn-based, with a lot of emphasis on weapons, range, positioning, aiming, stability, etc. and has an impact on your salvage possibilites.

It's hard for me to see it with fresh eyes and know if Cohh's stream communicates the depth of the mechanics to people unfamiliar with them given that I played the Beta (ie. what does Cohh doing things the wrong way communicate mechanically?).
He doesn't do anything wrong. He is just unaware of some of them, but given his very short experience with the game that's not surprising so I don't hold it against him.

As someone new to Battletech the most annoying thing about Cohh's videos is the amount of condescending comments he gets, not particular to him I realize but still.

Yeah, it's pretty silly. The guy's showing enthusiasm and it seems like he just gets spit on by some individuals.

Ye, I noticed that too. I think some of it is just envy of diehard battletech veterans that someone pretty new to the battletech universe gets to play it before them.
