By no means am I claiming I haven't missed anything. I noticed you have multiples variants of same mech with different hardpoints... now I gotta go look back for that.

By no means am I claiming I haven't missed anything. I noticed you have multiples variants of same mech with different hardpoints... now I gotta go look back for that.
Hehe, no worries, was just saying your findings matched mine re the Flamer stats. :)

I find that gathering this kind of information myself helps me remember stats better. O do the same in 40k where I still write lists by hand, as it forces me to look up information, which helps me remember said information, which in turn means I don't have to look up as much during a game.

Cohh's most recent stream (this morning) was much better! He made mistakes but nothing really cringeworthy. He even recreated Yen Lo Wang in the mech bay without realizing it. Its encouraging that he's made this much progress.

Most importantly, the game seems to be fun for players who don't know what they are doing. Some games are designed to be super fun and have infinite replayability once you master them, but when you first pick them up it's a chore. He's really raving about it and talking about how much he wants to keep playing it. He's reached the Embargo point in the campaign now.

Comments like the following seem pretty common in Cohh's Twitch chat, by the way, and I think this is a great point for why Cohh and others like him can be an invaluable marketing tool for HBS and Paradox, in terms of reaching people other than those of us who already have or would have bought the game anyway.

"I´m not too much into mechs, but I love turn based combat and strategy games with lots of personalization options, so I´m getting this game for sure."

Looked like you got Cohh to hover on your flamer in his last stream @TheDarkestStig. Did you get the info you needed?

I figured it was 0 stability and heat damage, but that and range was what I was lacking (in terms of actually being able to confirm it).

I see a lot of "So is this xcom with giant robots?"

For most XCOM is closest reference point for game like this. They share quite a bit core principles (turn based, base management, "soldier" management...) hence people making connection.

Like it or not, but Battletech (not just this game, whole universe) is dead IP for huuuge majority of gamers. Very possible they have never heard of it or don't know that this and e.g. MWO are within same universe.

I'm really struck by the contrast in web interest between Battletech and Forstpunk as seen on Google Trends:

That's over the last 30 days with Frostpunk having announced their April 24th launch on March 9th.

I'm not sure if that's the Cohh effect, but it well might illustrate the perils of going without a publisher in general. The developers of Frostpunk just sold 2.5 million copies of This War of Mine, but don't seem to have much traction here.

Some of it is probably the Coff Effect, though. :)

I couldn't see anything about limited shots or ammo.
I know it doesn't use separate ammo, and on other weapons that is where number of shots is listed (he was looking at AC20 and almost made the mistake of only installing 1 ton of ammo)

I'm very biased here, sure. But when I want to see a vid about a specific game - I don't care about streamer's wife. Or his cat or his toddler or his dog or that guy X who subscribes for Y weeks without missing a stream or the fact Cohh will stream another game soon or what have you. Know what I mean?
My advice is to watch two videos from ParadoxExtra: "BattleTech - Combat Strategy" and "BattleTech - Mercenary Campaign Overview (SPOILER-LIGHT)". They go into details of combat and mercenary company management, which made a huge impression on me. It turned out the game is more interesting than I thought when I was watching Cohh play it to see the gameplay.

You mean because there were systems under the surface that were more evident when explained by an insider?

Thanks, I already checked these. Sadly, Bombadil/NGNG doesn't have much content to go through but it's a start. Hope we get more streamers on Battletech before the release.

Your point...?

I was just curious about the specifics - especially in relation to what approach would help sell copies to more traditional Paradox fans or say, maybe 4X or Grand Strategy fans in general.

It's hard for me to see it with fresh eyes and know if Cohh's stream communicates the depth of the mechanics to people unfamiliar with them given that I played the Beta (ie. what does Cohh doing things the wrong way communicate mechanically?).

- Gunnery and Guts appear to be better for skills than piloting or tactics (unless maybe you're building up some sort of duelist melee build)
But man, the new Piloting top-tier skill???
