Is it a bug or is it WaD that you, as the USSR, can steal the blueprint for the spearhead doctrine from Germany?
The blueprint is, obviously, completely useless to a USSR using the standard land doctrine-tree.

They picked up a copy of Guderian's book.

I have mentioned before that a nation that obtains blueprints for a diverging Land or Sea Doctrine path should get a +1% per blueprint combat efficiency bonus (when fighting opponents who follow that divergent path), to represent familiarity with their opponent's tactical methods.

WAD -IMHO

I assume that it is not possible to code the stealing blueprint function to take in account the country specific doctrine.

See it like this the spy steals a briefcase of a high ranking scientist of minister. But he has no idea what's in it. So it can be usefull for you or not. :D

WAD. First off, there's no guarantee that what you steal will be usefull (immediately or in the future). Generally speaking, most of the "application" techs are the next level up, or the one currently being researched that get stolen. Not always the case though. secondly, with the ability to abandon doctrines (all branches), you can shift to the Blitzkrieg path as the USSR, in which case, having that BP will come in rather handy.

Now I'm not the most experienced modder for DD or HOI2 but I can't think of a way to implement that in the system.

If it could be done it would be a nice feature.

The problem I've found (and it may just be coincidence) is that once you steal a useless blueprint, you can no longer steal useful ones. I kept trying to get basic rockets and basic turbojets from both SOV and GER (As the US - my spies saw them research it) and my spies kept coming back empty handed... except for the occasional useless just-researched mobility based land doctrine.

Has anyone else seen this? Once you get a useless blueprint, you are stuck getting more useless blueprints. Or do you ever get a good one again?

Sometimes it's something good, the next time it' s not. But what you are saying isn't correct. In this case you just had a stroke of bad luck.

Just keep trying. :)

turns out, he stole a ham sandwich :p

It makes some sense though, but its strange to advise your spies to steal just anything they can find. Youd figure theyd have some kind of guidance as to what would be useful to steal.

It would be good if you just couldnt steal doctrines, then you wouldnt get so many chances at a useless BP. At least youd have something somewhat useful that you can actually research.

the stealing of useless tech really should be seen as a part of the reason you have only a 20% chance of stealing something. Only way to stop the seatling of useless tech is giving everyone blueprints of all doctrines not in their doctrine path.

IMHO it would be useful to have an option to exclude Land and/or Naval Doctrines when trying to acquire a blueprint.

You are being to strict with your definition of spies. Spies are not always James Bond.

There were networks of spies in WWII. From scientists to janitors and dumb to genius. You can easily see how the file clerk at a weapons plant could grab the prints to a useless item.
