You have obviuosly seen my standard advice and tried some of it.
Do keep the AVI folder renamed, the worst that that will do is skip the intro videos for you and get you in the game sooner.

Have you turned off all your virus protection and all the other programs running in the background?

The "AVI folder thing" the name does not matter as long as it is changed.

Okay, so by what you are saying about the saves, it is just this one game that has become corrupt.

Now that you have changed all this stuff, like the virus protection off, the AVI folder renamed, the color depth, the updated drivers ...

Start a new game and see if the problem reappears.

Okay lets find out what we are dealing with here.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Okay everything is way out of date.

Priorities are DirectX 9.0c or above.
Then the latest video drivers.

Your color depth is reading 32Bit at the time you did the report, keep it at 16 and the AVI folder renamed, also rename the MUsic folder to Music_back or something simmilar.

I don't understand how you were compromised just by updating windows, say what you want about MS , their website is usually clean.

Anyway, I would say something is up, maybe a bad memory chip.

And if you follow my standard advice about no programs running in the background you do not have an ATI icon in the system tray to click on.

You right click on the desktop-select properties then the setting tab.

Are you saying it is theoretically possible or are you saying it is likely you will get a virus.

If you have good support, they may be able to provide you with a little test program, that will at least minimally test your memory.

As for the ATI system tray program, there should be an option to shut it down.

Try, right-click on desktop, select properties, Setting tab, Advanced button, OPtions tab, deselect "Enable ATItaskbar Icon aplication."

You may have to change the boot order option in your CMOS to get it to boot from floppy.

Did he install new drivers for the new video card, ie the latest ones?

Unless the card was the exact same make model, there may be a different driver needed.

The problem has been solved. And he uses an ATI card ATI cards do not share memory.
