Alternatively, you could produce clothing without dye that would make people less happy, but still warm.

I do think the economy could use some work on the supply and demand side of things.

As for Vicky II, I'm no programmer, but I would think it would be much less expensive to make a vicky 2 than a brand new game. As such, lower sales of vicky 1 might be less of a deterent than some think.

That's why I regard that trade embargo is an important diplomatic option, which is not provided in Victoria. If there is a trade embargo option, UK might be able to hinder a nation from producing clothes and control the textile industry of the world before a nation can build its dye factories.

seconded as its a very historical option. AIUI the british manchester liberalsim success story is built on protectionist-heavy production & trade which degraded india in the 18th ct. from a leading producer (and exporter) of finest clothes to a dependend producer of primary goods like cotton in the 19th ct. while the workshops now were located in the british homeland - due to british trade taxing/embargos. needless to say the military presence of the EIC in bengalia and the huge tax income from the bengalis helped a bit ;)

also china had to accept trade treatys with the UK which lead to the (opium-)wars - this is also covered in the event engine. so yes, IMHO, trade embargos and other protectionist options should have their place even if its called the age of liberalism.

its for the wishlist.... :)

Along with the diplomatic carrot goes the martial stick. I know it would require a lot of reworking (i.e. far beyond the scope of a patch), but if blockages worked a whole new element would be added. Imagine if a belligerent Germany was forced to rely on continental production as the British blockade shut off the global supply to dye, sulfer, rubber, etc...
