Since v1.8 all colony provinces have a minimum 50% of local autonomy. I could accept that. The problem appears when moving the capital to America. You are still stuck with the 50% local autonomy for all colony provinces except the capital province where it is 0%. What is even more strange is that the provinces taken from the native nations eventualy can reach a 0% local autonomy. This poses a great problem for the strategy with small nations that used to be early colonization, move capital overseas then return to Europe and kick ass.

50% autonomy is there because Paradox does not see the moved capital strategy as a proper way to play the game. therefore they nerfed the heck out of it

fortunately for those of us that think otherwise there is an easy fix
go into defines and change the line colony_min_autonomy to 0

please note this will disable ironman

The workaround is to make a colonial nation, sell it everything your country owns and release it. Then dispose as you wish of your former country: annex, (diplo-)vassalise and make it into a super-vassal, etc.

Pros:
- You get rid of the autonomy cap as a former colonial nation
- You get to change your country name if you wish
- You don't have to get your capital isolated (keep more Old World land)

Cons:
- You get an ugly flag
- Not sure about how it works with achievements
- Pretty gamey

This is why we have this colonization cap.

Nope, that explanation doesn't hold any credibility since you can just play a CN and bypass it.

50% autonomy is there because Paradox does not see the moved capital strategy as a proper way to play the game

Nope, 50% autonomy is a direct nerf to nations that begin in the new world, and to a lesser extent Africa and Russia. It does absolutely nothing to curb typical western colonizers (actually there is more tax for them) and if a player wants to "move capitol" he can just "play as CN" after selling his CN all of his European holdings aside from 1 province. 0 LA floor.

A western nation from across an ocean is far more effective at colonizing and administering it than a western nation that originates 100 miles from said colony. This is a new world nation nerf, let's not pretend otherwise.

Only if you got the DLC, that i don't have. So not really a workaround.

From what i understood from Wiz is that it was specifically designed to stop a Navarra to new world (or similar OPM/minor) "exploits". And that they underestimated/forgot the impact it would have on new world/russia.
But don't quote me on that because i have been wrong before.

Also as a friendly word of advice, i got a pedantic undertone from your post. I highly doubt that was your intention but nonetheless it was the vibe i got. Please try to construct your post differently in the future, if at all possible.

If you release and play as a CN you lose your unique ideas and any DHEs your country might have gotten
Fortunately, Colonial Ideas are actually pretty good. Or if you want some DHEs, form the USA (assuming you have American Dream). Sure, most of them won't kick in until the late 18th century, but at least you'll have them.

Allegedly, it was because same-continent colonization was too powerful in general, and then the CN exemption was to keep it from making overseas colonization worthless (even though the regions with the CNs still got nerfed as colonial subjects due to the removal of means to reduce liberty desire and increased ways to gain liberty desire). Of course, Africa and Asia got a much better/less aggravating nerf to same-continent colonization - you simply can't do as much of it because so many of the formerly empty provinces got filled in with countries. And Russia isn't majorly affected because a.) the Siberian colonies were dirt poor before and half of worthless is still worthless and b.) the hordes get more land to take and are nerfed to make taking that land easier than ever. So in effect, it's only a real nerf to a.) nations fleeing to America and b.) Native Americans (who are told to comfort themselves with the fact that there are twice as many provinces (even though they're of roughly half value)).

Honestly, I wouldn't even be so mad about this discrepancy, except the potential difference between a (former) CN in the New World and anything else in the New World is larger than a westernized Ming's base tax.
