This is a map i made after i noticed that the world map was too dry, with few humongous countries on the map (6 or so megacountries almost entirely encompassing europe for example).

One of the things that was great about Eu2, Eu3 was that when you started from the grand campaign, the map of europe (and the world more or less) was very lively, a lot of countries dotting the landscape and everything being possible. i think this was one of the things that gave them an enriched gameplay experience.

later scenarios, and in victoria its generally a few big countries duking out each other in rather dull oversized battles and management.

so i set out to make a more lively map. ie, map as in a Victoria R savegame.

by saying 'i made', i mean that i changed all the playable countries but one in the starting screen to obscure minors, leaving only one in the end that i can change. therefore i was able to save, load and select any major country. (after i save and load, you know - it wouldnt let you play the other, greyed out flags in the starting screen).

so, one by one i changed my playable country to a major, loaded the scenario, released every satellite i can from all major countries. france, england, austria, prussia, russia, ottoman, mexico, usa. then i edited the scenario file to abolish all satellite statuses of these satellites, and eradicated all military accesses from all countries.

also, i loaded as each major power and somewhat cut them down to size, by giving land to the satellites i created (or existing countries) through negotiations menu. (ie, increased the size of poland, moldavia for example, and so on).

i also made some absurd changes to reforms and ruling parties of some major countries that i couldnt cut down to size enough, to complicate things for them. (i instituted no voting rights, state capitalist parties etc etc for usa and france etc)

also despite cutting down to size, russia still had a humongous 32 mil pop, so i disbanded all its military units and cleared some cash so it wont be waging war on anyone anytime soon.

attached is the savegame. i also uploaded a screenshot of europe.

i think the scenario can be made even livelier, if one goes into other countries and does the same for them (ie china brasil etc). and some direct scenario file editing. especially reducing relations in between ex satellites in europe and their former parent countries etc.

enjoy.

increased the size of poland
there was no polish state in 1836

If you say lively map you obviously mean particularism which was not really part of the victoria timeline. AFAIK 'a few big countries' duking it out is actually more or less what historically was the case IRL and this is actually what Vicky is about IMO, since its meant to take place in the era of european imperialism not particularism

Actually, there was, but it was under personal union with Russia. For most purposes it was part of Russia though.

There are two major issues when you split up large countries that I have noticed which you and others may want to be aware of.

1. Some countries will never really build an army..or do much of anything. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the AI files to the specific country. I've never messed with them though so I don't know how to get them to build armies. Most of the time they just sit there doing nothing...

2. Depending on the released country, some are often doomed to be eaten by other larger countries. Usually it's any of them near France, Germany/Prussia, and Russia. Austria is the only one that seems to be so weakened that the most it expands is into 2 nearby states...usually.

If those could be fixed, then you'll have a really good challenge and interesting game. Then again, maybe it changes over time. I usually got frustrated with how the world managed to "reset itself" back to the way things were every time (countries got most of their land back and generally all the changes were just speed bumps to them), so I never played all the way through in a hands off manner.

I know it sounds funny but I mean it harrrrrrrrrr

And then, when every tiny split nation is added herein why there is no independent Duchy of Bretagne... and Champagne as well

There even is not a nation of Savoy wtf

Interesting how you mentioned only those three while in reality there are literally countless possibilities. But, from reading the first post, the first reason would be the same why in the scenario there aren't Uganda or Üganda or  or Darth Vader's Love Shack nations -- they aren't in the game.

Yes indeed, those were just the first ones that came to my mind when looking at screenshot
