So I made a custom skall character with enough learning to become a Lich. After waiting for the necromancer trait I was ready to go and cast the spell...and then I died so I reloaded since I really wanted to see what playing an Undead sorcerer in the world of the living would be like. After about 5 reloads I finally did it and naturally gained the Lich trait but I was missing the Undead trait. Is this intentional?I mean -25 opinion modifier and -3 diplomacy seem like a very small price to pay for all the other bonuses like immortality.Plus in the description of the trait it says that you're Undead IIRC.

Hmm technically the chance to die is supposed to be an additional disadvantage. I believe not including the undead trait was intentional since all liches are undead. You can think of the lich trait as also including the undead trait. Also if you're going to cheat anways, you can save yourself some time and just type in "add_trait lich" in the console.

Besides, to become a lich you also have to be a necromancer, which is an additional negative trait. I'd say liches are pretty balanced as is (beside the fact that you can literally drown any opposition in an endless stream of reanimated bodies), though I kinda miss the undead portrait for them.

Yes but a lich is also a very powerful necromancer (obivously) which adds up to -35 general opinion while your normal run of the mill undead gets -100 just for being undead. It would seem more appropriate if a powerful undead mage was more hated and/or feared than just some random zombie. Now if you were to add the undead trait in addition to the lich trait that would be -135 but it would seem appropriate IMO.

The undead malus is to sort of represent them being mindless undead who always want to rip your guts out no matter what. Liches on the other hand are intelligent, and can choose to not attack you, so their malus just represents the natural revulsion people have towards them

The thread constantly reminds me of M'aiq and his line about naked liches. *shudder*

"A horrible thing indeed. If you see one, let M'aiq know. M'aiq wants to make sure to look in the other direction."
