The change to factions in general is nice. I can use it to change my race ethics a bit. BUT ... there is NO changse, to realy get right of an unwanted faction!
I builded every building which give me happines, - unrest (do mindcontrol laser work at all???) and + goverment ethic attraction. But the unwanted faction STILL increase in numbers! :(. And once I promoted a faction ... there is NO way to stop this promotion except promoting another faction!? No button: "stop promotion"!

A more technical problem which comes with 1.5. FPS DROB once I select a big fleet (200+ ships). I don't need to be in the system. Just in the galaxy map and select this fleet and my FPS drob from 30 (limit??) to 10.
I checked my CPU and GPU with tools and both aren't even at 50% usage !!!!
Intel 4690k@4.1 and NVidia 970gtx.
CPU @30°, GPU @55° == no temp problem either!

But there are some nice changes too :).
Better overview of terraforming for example. Or pre-sentinal spezies. Some QoL changes which are worth a patch for sure.

Other stuff is untouched :(. Like Missiles and Fighters. Well, Mabye 1.6 (if it ever comes).

Sorry, the pay-content is not worth 20,-€!
Maybe 5,-€ ... but not more. For 20,-€ I´ll buy a full new game. Or I donate 5,-€ to 4 different modders and get 100 times the content ;).

I think you're over thinking most of the new mechanics. I'll try to explain to help you.

The change to factions in general is nice. I can use it to change my race ethics a bit. BUT ... there is NO changse, to realy get right of an unwanted faction!

This isn't an issue. It's all on play style. Once you learn what makes a faction tick over you'll learn what not to do to make it never appear. For instance, trading with a materialist faction, made materalists appear in my empire over the course of 100 years or so by continuously doing it. Like-wise trading and dealing with military like empires, made some of my people beocme militarist due to the interactions with these outside influances.

This is more or less, realistic. However, even if you DO get these factions, they aren't a problem. Say you're a pacifist empire who somehow got a militarist faction, no biggie. Even without suppressing it, if that militarist faction has only 2% of your population, it can be at 0% happiness, and cause no harm to anything within your empire, further doing things to boost the pacifists in your empire will push the militarists down to such a point they are practically non existent.

Factions will grow and fall randomly, but don't worry about it too much, like I explained above. Keep focusing primarily on your main style of government, and those opposite like factions won't matter, and barely any of your people will join them. If you're in an odd state where many have. It's probably due to how you're playing. You're influancing your people to accept and embrace these ethics, whether you meant too or not.

ALso the promote button.. You're always promoting 1 faction as your main governments faction. You can never not promote 1. So if you want to change who you're promoting switch to another faction. KEep in mind, whichever faction you're promoting, that ethic will get a major boost in your empire. Make sure its the ethic you want.

OK and how about "unity" and "unrest"?

There is a Tradition "harmony" > "the greater good" which reduce "unrest" bei -20. But MAX unrest is +-5 anyway. Same for Orbital Laser which give -20 unrest too. What's the sense of -20 if cap is -5 ????

And what is the sense of the unlimited tech that gives +5% food? Even with just Frontier Hospitals and Paradise Dooms it is imposible to not have enough food anyway. Last game I had something like 5000 store + 2200 /month without a singel Farm!

others may disagree with my methods...but i'd say this: purge is still an option.
now that you can't use slavery as a solution

But MAX unrest is +-5 anyway.
no. max unrest is way higher. some of my worlds have -100 to -180 unrest.
but armies, civics, traditions and buildings reduce those numbers.

And what is the sense of the unlimited tech that gives +5% food?
more food gain over the cap (said +2200 from your example) - faster growth of Pops.

Having a -20 effect means you can counter several causes of unrest. So if you have 3 things giving +5 unrest, the -20 will still land you at -5

As for food, I like having surplus food so I don't need to build food-buildings on my habitats.

Is it though?

Granted, I havent looked particularly hard, but it seems you can no longer purge pops selectively. Just the whole species.

Conversely, slaverey seems to work pretty well.
1. Make a caste system for your primary species
2. assign the nasty democrats to food/mineral production
3. Profit

Is it though?
it is. untill they fix a workaround.
you can purge almost any planet you want. and factions are still tied to pops. so you can move undesirables and delete them from existence. with the whole faction.

Conversely, slaverey seems to work pretty well.
well...it may work. yeah. if you have enough farm\mines.
____
by combining both methods the result is even more profitable.
1)colonize a planet and fill it with farms\mines only.
2)turn on caste system
3)fill it with pop you wanna get rid of.
4)do not build armies or suppress unrest on a planet. wait for it to rebel
5)immediately declare war when the rebellion is successful(you don't have to wait unlike my previous method with vassalization)
6)bombard planet will it's clean. re-colonize. repeat.

Nice, gotta look into that then. I used to keep a few pops of a purged species around for fun for conservational purposes, so it would be cool if that's still possible

In addition to permanently pacifying errant factions ofc

imho purging should work the same way as genetic modification: you select a planet and purge all species of the said type.
maybe the same thing with slavery. but i'm not sure. i'm pretty much ok with slave system right now. (you just can't make prison planets anymore)
